In the spring of 1992, in response to the overused slogan "Frats Rape," the organization Greeks Against Rape began to take shape. Several interested Greeks wished to counter the misconception that Greek houses (especially fraternities) encourage sexual assault and they formed GAR with the purpose of establishing an intra-Greek network of education and communication.

Winter '94 is quickly passing us by - the ice is melting and finals are approaching. This certainly has been a very eventful term and I'd like to make a few predictions about forthcoming events in the closing weeks of the quarter. The following soothsayings are by no means based in fact - but you might consider them highly probable.

Last spring, the student body voted down Andrew Smith '94 in his bid for Student Assembly President, thereby breaking the hold on the Assembly that started with Brian Ellner '92, continued with Tara McBennet '92 and ended with Andrew Beebe '93. When this happened and Nicole Artzer '94 emerged as a new and different presence, one would have thought the Assembly would take a road away from the politics of years past, towards substantive results that benefit the students.

In our four short years as college students, we seek to learn many things. Some would focus on the sciences while others would pursue the humanities. After our graduation we will all enter the "real world" and take our place in society, in whatever fashion that may be - finding a cure for cancer or creating a moving work of art.

Thinking of college, many visions enter the mind - parties, beer, books and all-nighters to name a few. But overshadowing all of these collegiate forces is a monumental establishment - the committee, of which we have thousands. Here at Dartmouth, when we have a problem, you can count on the formation of a committee, or subcommittee or task force to look into the options for solving it.

If I had to list the top 10 buzz words I've heard in my two and a half years here in Hanover, "hate" would certainly be among them. It seems like every day, either in print or on a soap box, someone is accusing someone else of preaching hate. The unfortunate consequence of this repetitive attack is that many of us have lost sight of what hate really is by confusing it with political criticism or ideological discourse.

I am an American. I am a male American. I am a white male American. I am a Jewish white male American. I am a Romanian Jewish white male American. I am an Irish Romanian Jewish white male American. I think that we should have an organization for Irish Romanian Jewish white male Americans because we certainly are a minority. I believe that it is only fair that we Irish Romanian Jewish white male Americans have a medium by which we can communicate and promote awareness across campus of the new trends in Irish Romanian Jewish white male American culture.

The campus experienced yet another shouting match this fall between the pro-Greeks and the anti-Greeks. And aside from the shouting, some of the more hard line anti-Greeks plastered the campus in graffiti that carried messages quite extreme and in some cases, quite inaccurate. I do not wish to belabor the already tiring arguments, but a few very important points have yet to be made regarding this issue.

As I glance over my columns from this term, I see that I have not yet had to address the Greek system. So I will use this, my last editorial, to comment on what I see as a large amount of distrust many administration members have regarding the Greek system.

I'd like to shift gears this week and talk about what I see as a growing problem on this campus and nationwide.

Feminism is a tough issue to talk about because in many people's minds, to criticize feminists in any way makes you a bigot and a hatemonger. Let me say that in this column I do not mean to insult anyone or demean the women's movement as it exists in most women's minds. I mean to expose the modern feminist movement for what it is -- a movement of extremists to advance an extremist agenda.

Alas, it is Friday and we have a new tantalizing topic of discussion on campus.

I hate Mondays. Waking up is never easy and going to classes is even less easy. But this past Monday turned out to be an eventful one. Upon leaving my room and departing for class, I noticed that several parts of the campus were plastered with stickers with the phrase "Womyn are Everywhere" on them.

Since it is already very hot outside, I figured that I'd add to the heat with some conversation that's certain to anger a few of the "activists" on campus.

June is coming to a close and it is almost time to break out the fireworks for the 4th of July, Independence Day.

Well, it's summertime. The birds are chirping, the bugs are buzzing and the term is beginning. And since the term just began, I thought that I would make some predictions for this summer for all of you to ponder.
