A terrific performance by captain Joe Sclafani '12 powered the Big Green (13-6, 2-2 Ivy) to victory. The shortstop went 4-5 at the plate and bashed two home runs, including a grand slam in the top of the ninth inning to cement the win. He drove in six RBIs.

The men's basketball team which has won only one Ivy League game despite having faced every League opponent at least once sought to reverse its fortunes with visits to Columbia University and Cornell University. The Big Green (5-19, 1-9 Ivy) came away empty-handed, however, losing both games to extend its losing streak to seven.

As the Dartmouth football team seeks to win the program's first Ivy League championship since 1996 this fall, the team will move forward while adjusting to turnover in the coaching staff. Former offensive coordinator Jim Pry's departure which was announced in an e-mail sent by Rick Bender, Dartmouth's director of varsity athletic communications, on Feb. 9 means the Big Green will open the 2011 season with its third offensive coordinator in three years, though players interviewed by The Dartmouth said they are generally not concerned about the change.

Dartmouth's offense has been the team's main culprit during its downturn. The Big Green ranks 343rd of 346 Division I schools in scoring this season, after ranking 346th of 347 last season. The Big Green's shooting percentages have not been much higher the team was 341st in 2009 and is 333rd this season.

Following the Big Green's first winning season since 1997, the Dartmouth football team announced a "mutual parting of ways" with offensive coordinator Jim Pry who has only coached at the College since the fall in an e-mail sent by Rick Bender, Dartmouth's director of varsity athletic communications, on Wednesday. Head coach Buddy Teevens and the team cited "philosophical differences" as the reason for Pry's departure, according to the e-mail.

The Dartmouth men's basketball team faced off against two of the top teams in the Ivy League this weekend. The Big Green (5-15, 1-5 Ivy) was denied its first League road win since February 2009 when it fell to the University of Pennsylvania on Friday, 78-47, before dropping Saturday's game against Princeton University, 68-53.

Down four with 18 seconds remaining and the shot clock winding down, guard Jabari Trotter '12 hit a huge three-pointer to narrow the score to 65-64. After letting 11 seconds run off the clock, Trotter finally fouled Colgate junior guard Mike Venezia with seven seconds to play and sent him to the free throw line. Venezia knocked down both shots, leaving the Big Green one last chance to extend the game.

While most of campus returned home for the holidays, the Dartmouth men's basketball team was busy in Hanover and on the road playing six games in four states as it prepared to open Ivy League play this Saturday against Harvard University. The Big Green (4-9) went 2-4 during that stretch, including wins over the United States Military Academy and Drake University.
