World Bank President and former College President Jim Yong Kim joined other financial leaders on Sunday to tell Congress to reopen the U.S. government and raise the debt ceiling to avoid major economic issues, The New York Times reported on Sunday. Kim and other leaders originally went to Washington, D.C. to discuss the international economic recovery, but the topic transformed into the United States' fiscal problems, including the increasing likelihood that the Treasury Department will run out of the money needed to pay its bills in the coming weeks. Kim said hitting the debt ceiling would be "a very dangerous moment," especially for developing countries.

Three years ago, rosters were filled with '14s excited to begin their Ivy League athletic careers and represent the Big Green on the court, on the field and in the water. But as seniors, we notice how many of our classmates are no longer a part of the varsity teams they were recruited for, as many rosters are heavily populated by underclassmen.

I've had three experiences in this past year which have put me into contact with graduate students at Dartmouth, and they reaffirmed my belief that undergraduates could benefit from interacting more with this population. Although freshmen or sophomores can certainly gain from interactions with upperclassman friends, much more significant learning can take place through contact with graduate students.

Last week, Gawker published the latest in its series of (mostly successful) attempts to smear the Dartmouth Greek system: this summer, the blog lambasted Alpha Delta fraternity for its ill-conceived "Bloods and Crips"-themed party, and, more recently, the publication leaked a set of internal documents from Beta Alpha Omega fraternity's Google group.

I've always wondered how other college kids spend their Friday nights, especially since my visiting friends are so intrigued by Dartmouth's social scene. As the bad and lazy friend that I am, I have yet to visit any of these friends at their own schools, and I was the ripe old age of eight when I visited my sister at college, so this term has been my first real encounter with a non-Dartmouth college social scene. For all you similarly curious souls, I will recount a few of my evening adventures and let you decide how they stack up against Dartmouth's widely diverse nightlife options.
