The Big Green's offense proved too much for the Lions in the second half, as Dartmouth pulled away with three unanswered goals after a 2-2 tie at halftime. In the second half alone, Dartmouth outshot Columbia, 14-3.

The Dartmouth women's soccer team extended its winning streak to five games on Saturday, defeating Columbia University on the road, 1-0. Tasha Wilkins '15 scored in the 65th minute to give the Big Green (11-4, 4-1 Ivy) its seventh win at Columbia (6-8, 2-3) since 1999.

While the Big Green did not overcome a double-digit fourth quarter deficit, Dartmouth did stage a comeback of its own, as a touchdown from Columbia running back Marcorus Garrett gave the Lions a 16-14 lead with 2:46 to play. Quarterback Alex Park '14 and the Big Green offense got the ball at the Dartmouth nine-yard line down 16-14, and while the Big Green only needed a field goal for the win, the team still needed a significant drive to get into range for an attempt. After an incomplete pass on first down, Park began a streak of four consecutive completions to Ryan McManus '15 that was only broken by his own 13-yard run. McManus displayed his athleticism on several of the catches, including a 31-yard reception in which McManus streaked down the right sideline and fought off a defender to catch the ball.

"Nothing daunted me," Kurtz said. "It was difficult because there was resistance, but it was inevitable that we were going to have teams here. Dartmouth had admitted women and had committed to treating women the same as they treated men. It's just that it took a while to work our way through various attitudes."

The bells first rang in 1928 when they were installed with the construction of Baker Tower. Initially, the bells were rung manually until more efficient mechanisms, such as automated paper rolls and computerized systems, evolved. Today, an iMac computer runs the show: at every hour and half hour, a graduate student in the Music Department “rings the bells” via wireless access. Not quite the Quasimodo image you expected, is it?

A former Amherst College student described her rape by a classmate and the institution's inadequate response in a 5,000-word piece published on Wednesday in The Amherst Student, gaining widespread attention on the Internet. The article details Angie Epifano's attempts to seek help after being sexually assaulted by an acquaintance. Epifano, a former member of the class of 2014 who withdrew from Amherst last summer, said she later had to work with her alleged rapist, who recently graduated with honors, on a fundraising project. After reporting the incident and her suicidal thoughts to an Amherst sexual assault counselor, she was admitted to a psychiatric ward, according to the article. Epifano said the administration did not assist her recovery, preventing her from studying abroad and enrolling in certain classes. Amherst President Biddy Martin released a statement on Thursday emphasizing Amherst's intent to review the institution's policies on sexual misconduct, including a meeting involving students and faculty members to discuss how the school's policies should be changed.

Rivlin highlighted the necessity of congressional compromise in preventing the fiscal cliff a series of austerity measures including spending cuts and tax hikes set to go into effect as of Jan. 1. These measures were designed to be undesirable enough to motivate congressional action before the deadline, she said.
