It also brought Lewis to the forefront of national media coverage amid her public standoff with Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who formerly served as White House chief of staff under President Barack Obama.
Beyond the Bubble: Let's Talk About Sex
This week, a number of arts openings and events discuss the portrayal of sex in society, focusing on how individuals make decisions about sex amid larger societal norms and expectations. Ashim Ahluwalia's "Miss Lovely" (2012) premiers at the South Asian International Film Festival on Oct. 24 and tells the story of two brothers who make porn and horror movies in 1980s Bombay. The brothers' movies all vulgar in their own way nonetheless play into viewers' appetites for the material. Outside of this plot, however, is a fairly traditional tale of individuals working hard and striving for professional success.
Now Playing in Hanover: Argo
"Argo" (2012), Ben Affleck's latest director-actor project, follows the 1980 joint CIA and Canadian secret service mission to rescue six American diplomats from revolutionaries in Tehran, Iran. Based loosely on Tony Mendez's account of the historical rescue, the film follows the events of the Iran hostage crisis in 1979. In order to get the diplomats back, Affleck, in his role as Mendez, devises a plan to pose as a Canadian film production crew working on a film in Iran. However, when the crew lands in Iran, the plan quickly begins to unravel. Affleck chooses to bring to the front a part of the Iran hostage crisis little known, focusing on the six diplomats and not the 52 Americans in captivity.Ashley Ulrich

Yang: Antagonists Anonymous
On Oct. 12, Gawker writer Adrian Chen published a lengthy article outing 49-year-old Michael Brutsch as the infamous Reddit troll and moderator Violentacrez, who created, contributed to or moderated threads such as "Chokeabitch," "Rapebait," "Hitler," "Jewmeria," "Beatingwomen" and "Jailbait." The last of these threads, which Brutsch and thousands of others used to share provocative photographs of underage girls, drew so much criticism last year that Reddit was forced to shut it down. As the self-described "creepy uncle of Reddit," Violentacrez used anonymity and "free speech" to promote racism, sexism, violence and myriad other things offensive to the general public.
Rothfeld: Prescriptive Paternalism
In his recent column, physics professor Richard Denton inveighs against the supposed evils of casual sex ("Sex and Responsibility," Oct. 18). Citing sexually transmitted diseases and emotional damage as the prime dangers facing promiscuous members of the Dartmouth population, Denton encourages single students to adopt a program of abstinence until they are in a committed, lifelong relationship. To men, for whom celibacy is especially "difficult," he recommends masturbation. To women, for whom celibacy is at least presumably easy, he recommends nothing.
What to Watch For
Vince Marriott: This week, I can't wait to watch some NHL action! Oh, wait. I'll probably have to wait until next year for that. In the meantime, the lackluster NFL schedule this week may offer some hidden gems to provide entertainment on a Sunday that will probably not see many people leaving their beds until the late afternoon anyway. Both the Seattle Seahawks and the Detroit Lions have had up-and-down seasons thus far, but each of these squads has a great deal of talent on both sides of the ball, especially at quarterback. With Russell Wilson and Matthew Stafford lining up behind center for Seattle and Detroit, respectively, look for a well-run game that features myriad long balls and big play opportunities.
