Despite the many long-standing traditions of Dartmouth Homecoming, the weekend was a very different one when John Engelman '68 was a student. In those days, the football team was winning, a bonfire was constructed before every home game and Homecoming weekend went by the name of House Parties, he said. Women traditionally made the trip to campus for the weekend as Dartmouth was all-male at the time.

As an impressionable freshman with little knowledge of Dartmouth traditions, I asked a friend what Homecoming typically entails. He oh-so-eloquently described the scene as "a bonfire and a grindfest." At face value, this doesn't seem as exciting as everyone makes it sound, but when I think of the endless raging and dance parties, the hype makes more sense. And what does every weekend of mayhem need? The right playlist!

Members of the Class of 2013, your Dartmouth brainwashing is almost over. The carefully designed indoctrination program that you have been undergoing since the first day of DOC Trips will culminate in a pagan-esque ritual involving fire and the chanting of certain ritual recitations on the evening of Friday, Oct. 23. If all goes well, from this point forward, you will forever be loyal Dartmouth devotees, with green blood and all the granite of New Hampshire in your veins.

Now, the last time I wrote a Dartmouth football-related article, I boldly predicted a win for the Big Green, only to be let down by the team. Not only was this slightly embarrassing, but I think the poor prediction may have also greatly hurt my credibility.
