The market, which has been held since 1986, aims to give a unique Christmas shopping opportunity to locals, offering gifts from different non-profit and charitable groups from around the world. The groups then receive the proceeds from sales to support their membership.

Empsall sat down at the table outside of Collis Center, carefully placing his typed, five-point outline of the reasons he loves Biden in the brim of his black cowboy hat. His passion for Biden unfolded during the interview as he described his commitment to the campaign, consistently referring to "Joe" with the familiarity of an old friend. Empsall, the head and founder of Students for Biden, also serves on Biden's Steering Committee in New Hampshire, is a personal volunteer for the campaign and may soon become a full-time staffer.

Dartmouth's Office of Financial Aid is joining with nine other colleges to establish a new and hopefully more accurate way to calculate international students' financial aid needs.

At the same time as many universities begin to outsource their e-mail systems to tech companies such as Google and Microsoft, at Dartmouth, Ellen Waite-Franzen, vice president for information technology, is planning to create a committee by the end of the academic year that will review the school's BlitzMail system. Outsourcing e-mail services is one option that the committee will likely look into.

The flyers jeered male athletic teams for continuing to sing the old, "Men of Dartmouth" version of the Alma Mater. Chi Gamma Epsilon fraternity was decried for its Homecoming T-shirt, as was Psi Upsilon fraternity for an e-mail they sent out about a cocktail party. In another flyer, an unnamed male was singled out for boasting about a drunken sexual conquest.

Prior to the iPhone (yes, humans existed back then), there was the Sidekick, a quirky soap-bar sized device with a slick swiveling display and spacious keyboard. It was at one point generally accepted as the phone for "hip" young people like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. Maybe those are bad examples, because not all Sidekick owners go to jail -- although, on second thought, perhaps they should.

After a few years at the Canoe Club, the owners of Elixir first took their talents to Maine and opened a French bistro before bringing the small-plate concept to the Upper Valley. Elixir Restaurant and Lounge opened earlier this year with the aim of combining artful, local food with New England musicians.

As the air in Hanover grows numbingly cold and you begin to feel that if you leave your bed the universe will implode, it's easy to become a hermit. You can have deep conversations on BlitzMail while you look at tagged pictures of your friends without ever having to put on shoes.
