The team that felt “blessed” to be there didn’t want its season to be over so early.
Harrison Keith ’27 has been playing lacrosse for as long as he can remember. He began his career in second grade and continued into high school, where he played as a starting offensive midfielder for Choate Rosemary Hall. At Choate, he also started on the football team as a safety.
After defeating Brown University on March 1, Ryan Cornish ’25 strolled into the players’ lounge for the postgame press conference. Sitting down, Cornish contrasted the hug-filled 20 minutes which had preceded his march off the court in Leede Arena.
On the ground at Brown University’s Olney-Margolies Athletic Center, throwers were stretching, runners were sprinting and jumpers were getting ready for their jumps. Five meters and 20 centimeters above the ground, Dartmouth pole vaulter David Adams ’26 soared into the program’s history books. With a 5.2-meter vault at the Brown Invitational this Saturday, Adams broke the program record — 5.18 meters — that he had set in 2023.
The Big Green has risen from the ashes. After a miserable 2023-24 season — in which the team finished 6-21 and last in the Ivy League, with a 2-12 conference record — Dartmouth has taken a dramatic step up in its play this season. The Big Green is 13-11 and, sitting at second place in the Ivy League at 7-4, has a chance to earn its first winning season since 1999. With an opportunity to play spoiler in Ivy Madness next month, The Dartmouth has found itself asking: Why is Dartmouth men’s basketball suddenly an Ivy League contender? Could this be the season to end the 66-year NCAA tournament drought for the Big Green?
One month ago, Dartmouth had the lead against Princeton University, but a Xaivian Lee dagger three with six seconds left snatched away the win. This time, Dartmouth grabbed the lead early and never let go.
As spring nears, Dartmouth Athletics is beginning a new season of competition. With a mix of new and returning players, many of the College’s spring sports teams are reconfigured — last year’s captains have graduated, and first-years are set to begin collegiate play. Every roster is seeking glory. While there are more Big Green teams competing this spring than the ones listed below, these spotlighted few have their only season — or, in the case of tennis, primary season — in the spring.
The buzzer sounded, and the crowd went wild. Leede Arena filled with the sound of whistles as an exuberant crowd rose to its feet to give the Dartmouth men’s basketball team a well-deserved standing ovation. The team’s incredible win over the Cornell University Big Red was assured.
On Feb. 7, the Big Green bounced back from a weekend two-game losing streak to defeat the Harvard University Crimson, 3-2.
On Jan. 31, Bella Pietrasiewicz ’25 set a new Dartmouth record, becoming the fourth collegiate athlete this season to score below 2:40 in the women’s 1000m run. Pietrasiewicz clocked in at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston with a time of 2:39.85 — the third-fastest in the women’s 1000m in NCAA history.
On Feb. 8, 1,240 fans packed into Leede Arena for the Winter Carnival men’s basketball game against the Harvard University Crimson.

On Saturday, approximately 4,670 spectators — the most since 1981— threw tennis balls onto the Thompson Arena ice rink.
Nearly 850 fans poured into Leede Arena on Friday night to watch the women’s basketball team face Cornell University.
The Dartmouth ski teams began their season with back-to-back victories at the Bates and St. Lawrence Carnivals on Jan. 10-11 and Jan. 16-18, respectively. Securing a combined 21 podium finishes across both weekends, the teams’ early dominance positions Dartmouth as a top contender heading into February.
On Jan. 25, Dartmouth men’s ice hockey bounced back to defeat Cornell University 6-1 after a 3-2 loss to Colgate University the previous night. This season’s sweep of Cornell put the Big Green back in the ranks at No. 19, according to USA Hockey.
The men’s and women’s swim and dive teams made waves last weekend at the Tate Ramsden Invitational in Hanover. Facing the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, the men’s team swept all swimming events, while the women’s team won eight of 18 events across swim and dive against UMass and Northeastern University.
