After tucking in her fifth birdie putt in the first round of the Red Bandana Invitational in Canton, Mass., Sophia Li ’29 walked to the 18th hole with a gargantuan five-stroke lead. After a par on the final hole, Li finished with a -4 for the round, the lowest first-round score in Dartmouth women’s golf history. She held onto her lead to finish with an impressive +1 score across the three rounds, winning the Invitational in her first college tournament.

The men’s soccer team took on Brown University away in Providence, R.I., on Saturday for their Ivy League opener. Despite a late goal from the Big Green, the Bears held on for a 2-1 win, a reverse scoreline of last year’s match between the teams.

Grayson Saunier ’27 has been lighting it up on the gridiron in his first season as the starting quarterback for Dartmouth football. His intensity and top-tier athleticism have been noticeable in his first two starts. The junior gunslinger is coming off a huge win at Central Connecticut State University, where he threw for 407 passing yards and two clutch touchdowns, including a game-sealing bomb with seconds on the clock to put Dartmouth ahead.

Over the summer, Dartmouth football’s very own Kevin Daft, an associate head coach and tight ends coach, was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers for the National Football League Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship. Before the Big Green returned to the field on Aug. 21, Daft spent his vacation time at the Chargers’ training camp. Daft played for the San Diego Chargers in 2000 after being selected in the fifth round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. He was a quarterback for the Titans during their run to Super Bowl XXXIV in 1999. The Dartmouth sat down with Daft to talk about his time with the Chargers.

For the first time in 20 years, the Dartmouth women’s soccer team left Harvard University’s Jordan Field with a win. With a goal from junior Kate Ryan ’27 in the 75th minute and a strong defensive performance, the Big Green achieved a 1-0 victory against the Crimson in Cambridge, Mass. on Sept. 20. This is the first time the Big Green has beaten Harvard on the road since 2005.

After 15 minutes of drilling their blocking to perfection, the Dartmouth Volleyball team gathered on the Leede Arena sidelines in their end-of-practice routine. Rather than a speech from head coach Kevin Maureen Campbell and the rest of the coaching staff, players were given the chance to reflect on practice themselves. This conversation, a deliberate end to every practice, replaces a typical coach-athlete dynamic with a space where everyone is equal, Campbell said.

After leading Dartmouth football to the seventh-best rush defense in the Football Championship Subdivision, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Don Dobes was named the American Football Coaches Association’s National Assistant Coach of the Year in the FCS. Dobes has led the Big Green to both team accolades — five Ivy League championships in his 15 years with the program — and individual — this season, eight players on his defense received All-Ivy recognition.
