Lacking a cute watch or any knowledge of how to actually use iCal, I'm telling time this year by the presence or absence of baseball on Red Rolfe Field. Luckily despite an April Fool's snowstorm to the contrary it is now officially springtime because the Dartmouth baseball team had its home opener on Wednesday (its earliest ever). Someone should tell the collegiate track world about said change in seasons the men's and women's track and field teams just participated in an invitational titled the Snowflake Classic.
As a member of the track team, Joe Lonek '11 has competed in various short distance events such as the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles. He's recently increased his distance, adding the 500 meter to his repertoire during the indoor season this year. Joe has also competed in relays as a member of the 4x400-meter relay squad.
The Dartmouth men's and women's tennis teams both rebounded from early deficits with relative success during their first weekend of Ivy League play. The women's team (10-7, 2-0 Ivy) came back from doubles match losses against Columbia University and Cornell University, winning both matches with 4-3 scores. The men's team (10-5, 1-1 Ivy) trounced the Lions with a 5-2 victory on Friday, but was edged out, 4-3, after a heated nail-biter against the Big Red on Saturday.

With an energetic and determined effort, the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team secured a 17-5 victory over Brown University in Hanover on Saturday. The result marked the third consecutive win for the Big Green (6-2, 3-0 Ivy), which has not lost an Ivy League game this season.

After falling to Cornell University in the semifinals of the ECAC Tournament last month, the Dartmouth men's hockey team has announced its new captains for the 2011-2012 season as well as its end-of-the-season awards. Blueliner Mike Keenan '13 will lead the Big Green as team captain, with the help of assistant captains Doug Jones '12, Connor Goggin '12 and Jim Gaudet '12. Keenan played in all 34 games this season and tallied 11 points, including three goals. While training for the fall season is a major concern of all players, the team is also preparing for its big inter-squad scrimmage, the Green and White Game, at Memorial Field on April 30. Players said the game is a great way to show the campus what the team has been working towards and to show improvement. The teams for the game are determined by a mock draft.
The Princeton University men's and women's basketball teams earned bids to this year's NCAA tournament. The 14-seeded Tigers men's squad lost to four-seeded University of Kentucky on a last-second shot in the first round of the big dance by a score of 59-57, as reported by ESPN.com. The Wildcats won a spot in the Final Four with its win against the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill on Sunday. Last year, the Cornell University men's team advanced to the Sweet Sixteen round before falling to Kentucky, 62-45. On the women's side, the 12-seeded Princeton team was also eliminated from the tournament in the first round after succumbing to the five-seeded Georgetown University squad, 65-49.
Dartmouth, which qualified the maximum of 12 skiers total for the competition's eight events, finished with a combined total of 643 points, behind first-place University of Colorado, which earned 831 points. The University of Utah placed second with 750.5 points, while three-time defending champion University of Denver came in fifth with 592 points.
Taking a break from the cooler conditions in Hanover, the Dartmouth women's tennis team journeyed to a more temperate California for spring break, where it split its first four matches but could not finish its fifth match due to rain.
