Saturday got off to a rough start for the Big Green, as it dropped the first game of the doubleheader against Princeton, 8-0, after falling into a 7-0 hole by the end of the second inning. The Big Green managed only four singles off the Tigers' pitching and failed to advance a runner past second base. Captain Joe Sclafani '12 had two of the team's four hits.

Senior forwards Doug Jones '12 and Nick Walsh '12, defensemen Connor Goggin '12 and Dan Nycholat '13 and goalie Jody O'Neill '12 have entered the professional ranks after recently signing amateur tryout contracts with minor league hockey teams. Having left their mark at Dartmouth, the players will now look to perform well enough in the minors to merit a call-up to the National Hockey League.

Vince Marriott: Even though most of the country has been watching NCAA basketball over the past couple of weeks, there is still plenty of interesting NBA action taking place as the season winds down, as it seems like every game carries major playoff implications. When the Dallas Mavericks travel to Florida to take on the Orlando Magic on Friday, it will be a great game between two teams jockeying for prime playoff positioning. Dwight Howard decided to stay with the Magic because he thinks that Orlando has a chance of winning it all, and games like this will help determine whether or not this is a realistic goal. (Friday, 8 p.m., ESPN).

If you were a Harvard fan and I told you there was bigger sports news than Linsanity and the Crimson's first ticket to the Big Dance since 1946, would you believe me? Unlikely, but it is true. While on the surface it may not seem groundbreaking, 2013 basketball prospect Zena Edosomwan's commitment to the Crimson is about to completely change the landscape of Ivy League sports.

This week, I sat down with Kyle Schussler '12, a member of the Dartmouth men's hockey team. Schussler is versatile, playing both forward and defense in his four years on the Big Green. Despite playing only nine games in his four seasons, Schussler is described as the "ultimate teammate," giving it his all in practices despite not suiting up for many games.

The Dartmouth softball team battled its way to a 6-4 record during the team's annual Florida spring trip before dropping both games of a doubleheader to Boston College on Saturday. The Big Green (7-8) will begin Ivy League play later this week.

Despite hanging with the Blue Devils through the first quarter, the Big Green could not keep up in the second and third, trailing 19-6 going into the final quarter. Dartmouth won the final frame, 3-1, but it was too little, too late as the Big Green ultimately fell, 20-9.

The members of the No. 10 Dartmouth women's lacrosse team stayed busy over spring break, remaining in Hanover to build and refine their skills. The strenuous practices in unseasonable heat bore no resemblance to the typical March vacation, but they proved advantageous for the Big Green, as the team won four of its five contests over spring break. Dartmouth now boasts a 6-1 (2-0 Ivy) record on the season.

The trip began with a five-game set in Northern California against Sacramento State. The Big Green came out slowly in the first game against the Hornets, losing 11-3 after falling behind 4-0 in the first. One of the highlights of the game was a two-run home run by Jeff Keller '14 in the bottom of the second that brought the Big Green within two runs. The team, however, was never able to capitalize on many of its opportunities in the following innings, stranding nine on base throughout the game.

Although most seniors do not practice with their teams after they have finished, the team still remains a big part of their lives at Dartmouth. Without daily practices, senior athletes have more time to explore a side of Dartmouth on which they may have missed out while they were active members of their teams.

Faziah Steen '13 scored her 1,000th point in the Big Green's win over Columbia, making her the 16th 1,000-point scorer in Dartmouth basketball history. Having played in 82 career games, Steen is one of just three players to achieve the milestone in less than 100 games. The night also served as a warm goodbye to Sasha Dosenko '12, who after 102 career games has finally played her last home game. Dosenko is the team's lone senior and has led the Big Green to 40 wins in her four years at Dartmouth. She is the only current member of the team to win an Ivy League Championship during the 2008-09 season.

Vince Marriott: College basketball's playoff system is perhaps the best in all of sports. Even though the regular season means a lot due to the importance of seeding, the ultimate measure of a team's prowess comes down to six do-or-die games in front of a national audience surrounded by tens of thousands of screaming fans. There's nothing else like it. Even better, the first two rounds, which require the greatest amount of time to watch, happen over spring break! So, if your friends all have a different break schedule (as they probably do), settle in March 15-18 to watch the original 64 teams get narrowed down to 16 and experience firsthand all of the storylines that will inevitably come up during this year's March Madness. (Thurs.-Sun., CBS).

Despite Mother Nature's feeble and unsucessful attempst to bring winter to Hanover, we've had a couple chilly days recently. Those days, however, will be over quite soon. We will all leave campus in less than two weeks and embark on our respective spring break shenanigans. Upon our return, there's a chance we'll have a handful of days that require a heavy coat, but April is right around the corner, which means warmer days and lots of rain, too. We win some, you lose some.

On the road for its final two games of the season, the Dartmouth men's basketball team lost to hot-shooting Cornell University, 70-57, on Friday night and battled it out with Columbia University to finish behind, 61-55, on Saturday. The Big Green ended its season with a 1-13 record in conference play, numbers that do not necessarily reflect the team's improvement this year, players said.

The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team turned in a historic performance at the Ivy League Championship meet over the weekend, securing a fifth place finish in the competition, its highest finish since 1981. The top 32 men in the nation competed in the Pool Division, and Dartmouth's Chris Hanson '13 and Nick Sisodia '12 earned spots in the top bracket. Hanson opened the tournament on Friday against Princeton University freshman Samuel Kang. Hanson and Kang battled for five games, but Kang eventually emerged victorious. Hanson snagged the opener, 11-9, fell, 5-11, in the second, edged out Kang, 13-11, in the third and succumbed, 11-6 and 11-4, in the last two games.
