Playing in windy, frigid and generally disorienting conditions on an unusual grass surface in Providence, Rhode Island, the football team faced several obstacles on Saturday that detracted from its typically efficient and stable character. Nevertheless, the No. 23 Big Green (8-1, 5-1 Ivy) grew an early lead and finished with a 34-18 defeat of Brown University (4-5, 2-4 Ivy), emerging from a sloppy game that contained 13 combined turnovers, four failed extra point attempts and uncharacteristically poor passing performances by both teams.

Men’s hockey opened the weekend with a 7-3 come-from-behind win over Brown University on Friday night before falling 4-2 to Yale University on Saturday in a game which featured a pair of controversial calls in the final minutes.

Playing in a nationally televised game for the second straight week, the football team managed to return to its winning ways a week removed from a heartbreaking loss to Harvard University. Despite committing an obscene amount of penalties for the second straight home game that contributed to a sluggish flow for most of the night, the No. 24 Big Green (7-1, 4-1 Ivy) ultimately prevailed over Cornell University (0-8, 0-5 Ivy) by a commanding score of 21-3.

After beginning practices in early October, the basketball team hosted an exhibition match against Keiser University on Oct. 29, and with a final score of 81-51, the Big Green dominated the game. In the demolition, four Dartmouth players scored in double figures, with Guilien Smith ’19 leading the way with 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting.

The women’s soccer team remained winless in Ivy League play after the team fell at home to Columbia University 2-1 on Saturday. After a sluggish start to the match led to two quick Columbia goals in the first 28 minutes, the Big Green (7-4-3, 0-3-2 Ivy) were unable to mount a complete comeback despite rallying with strong play throughout the second half. The team has struggled to start games well, and as a result has been unable to find enough time to recover after falling into early deficits.

The men’s soccer team (8-3-1, 4-0 Ivy) scored two goals in the first half to top Columbia University (8-4-1, 2-2 Ivy) this past Saturday at 2-1. Eduvie Ikoba ’19 and Justin Donawa ’19 notched tallies in the first half, and the defense, led by captain and goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland ’16, held off Columbia’s offense for the remainder of the game.

Playing in its final out-of-conference game, the football team extended its undefeated streak to five and achieved its strongest start to a season since 1997 at Central Connecticut State University on Saturday. While not playing to its greatest capacity, the Big Green (5-0, 2-0 Ivy) built a lead early and pulled away late en route to a 34-7 victory over the Blue Devils (2-5), marking only the fourth time since adopting a 10-game schedule in 1980 that Dartmouth swept through its non-conference slate in a season.

It was the Homecoming game, Dartmouth’s Ivy League home opener and one of the most important matchups of the season that will go toward determining the Ivy League champion. With all of these circumstances in play, the football team turned Saturday afternoon’s contest against Yale University into a blowout by halftime. On the back of three different personal and school records broken by quarterback Dalyn Williams ’16, the Big Green (4-0, 2-0 Ivy) thrashed the Bulldogs (3-1, 1-1 Ivy) 35-3.

Thanks to victories over Yale and Brown Universities at Leede Arena this weekend, the volleyball team climbed into a first-place tie with rival Harvard University for the top spot in the League. On Friday, the Big Green (7-7, 4-1 Ivy) took down one of last year’s Ivy co-champions, the Yale Bulldogs (8-6, 3-2 Ivy), by a three-sets-to-one margin. On Saturday, Dartmouth beat Brown (8-8, 2-3 Ivy) in straight sets for the Big Green’s third-straight Ivy win. Dartmouth’s win over Yale was the Big Green’s first victory against the Bulldogs since Nov. 7, 2009.

Following two impressive blowouts in non-conference play to begin the season, the football team hardly missed a beat upon starting Ivy League play last Saturday. Crossing the end zone on each of its first three offensive drives and accumulating a three-touchdown lead by halftime, the Big Green (3-0, 1-0 Ivy) easily trampled over the University of Pennsylvania (1-2, 0-1 Ivy) 41-20 with another superb performance from quarterback Dalyn Williams ’16 leading the way. On top of commencing Ivy play in assertive fashion, the win was Dartmouth’s first playing at Penn since 1997.

The women’s soccer team fell to Princeton University 3-2 in overtime on Saturday night, following a battle of stout defenses and high-pressure forward lines on both sides. Unbeaten in its last eight games, the Big Green — now 7-2-2 and 0-1-1 Ivy — had not lost a game on their home turf of Burnham Field since Oct. 1, 2012 when Pepperdine took a 1-0 victory in double overtime. Princeton now sits tied with Harvard University atop the Ivy League standings with a 2-0 conference record, as the Big Green slips to a three-way tie for fifth.

In a tight affair that saw both teams unable to get ahead for the first 80 minutes, the men’s soccer team exploded for three goals in the final six minutes to knock down No. 18 Hofstra University (6-2), dealing the Pride its second loss of the season. The Big Green’s (3-3-1) performance at Burnham Field on Saturday night flipped the script from its recent pair of losses on a frustrating trip to Seattle last weekend.
