Sports fans, this was truly a giant week in Legends history. After realizing that a comeback and sweet redemption has been mathematically impossible since the sixth week of winter term, we have truly embraced the senior spring philosophy and gone for the long ball — things we would not usually have any CHANCE of success in, but we have always wanted to try. Spoiler alert: we really have had no success in many of these things, but they have been a blast.

This week I sat down with men’s tennis player Dovydas Sakinis ’16. Sakinis has been a driving force behind a resurgent Big Green (18-6, 5-2 Ivy) that saw its best Ivy record since 1998.

Decorating your first dorm room is almost a rite of passage ... or at least my mom thought so. One of my first memories in Hanover is sneaking into a paint store with her, stealing over 100 strips of colors and taping these to strings to hang up in my room. It was a project, to say the least, and not one that was particularly worth it — maintaining these hanging strings of color was far too difficult for me to keep up.

Congrats. You've been asked out by someone for a meal — just the two of you. Maybe you're just friends. But we're going to overanalyze this.

This week, I sat down with Robbie Anthony ’14, a center on the men’s rugby team and former wide receiver on the football team. Anthony transferred to Dartmouth after his freshman year at Clemson University and joined the rugby team after the Big Green’s football season ended with a win over Princeton University. Anthony recently helped the rugby team defeat Harvard University for the Ivy League Championship and his former squad in the Champions Cup.

A weekend win at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone I New England Equitation Championships brought the Big Green equestrian team one step closer to the 2014 IHSA National Championships, the first time the team has qualified in its history as a varsity sport. Last weekend’s competition, held at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., matched Dartmouth against teams from Tufts University, Mount Holyoke and the University of Rhode Island. The team earned a spot in the 2014 IHSA National Championships, which will be held May 1-4 in Harrisburg, Pa.

Austin, Texas — When co-captain Nejc Zupan ’14 sported green and white for the last time at the NCAA swim and dive championships this weekend in Austin, he went up against enormous packs of vicious Wildcats, jaw-snapping Gators, snarling Wolverines and the overwhelming hosting sea of burnt orange.

Three Dartmouth alumnae will compete for the U.S. at the Winter Olympics as part of a 10-person biathlon team, the largest team the U.S. has sent in 22 years.

As the oldest and self-proclaimed favorite of my family’s three children, I was the guinea pig while my mom and dad tried their hand at the whole parenting thing. As it turns out, my mom had heard that the other (presumably more learned) mothers had started supplementing their infants’ diets with sweet potatoes for extra nutrition. Perhaps a heavier emphasis should have been placed on the word “supplement,” because they ended up feeding me so many sweet potatoes that I actually turned orange. I repeat — I was the guinea pig. I was back in the hospital two weeks later. Everyone thought I had jaundice.

Jay Cutler signed a contract in early January with the Chicago Bears, guaranteeing him around $126 million over the next seven years. Seven years! The quarterback will be in his late 30s when the contract expires, much older than many of his teammates and competitors.

With Dartmouth regular decision applications due today, Common Application essays are still very much on the minds of future freshmen. For graduating seniors however, applications are nothing but a relic of the past. We asked four seniors to review their Dartmouth application essays, and the results were striking, poignant and sometimes hilarious. For many, re-reading applications was a reminder of both how much they had changed and the opportunities Dartmouth had allowed them to pursue through the years.

Destiny finished her opiate binge, left the bathroom and returned to her high school class. Her head felt light. She put it down — just for a second. The teacher did not notice. She went to her next class, and then another.

As I sat in a meeting at my fraternity the other night, slowly sinking into the leather couch, the house’s president posed a question that, simple and obvious though it might seem, really made me think. “Why did you join a fraternity?”

This topic seems old to me, and yet here we go. Spending inequality for female athletes continues to persist in college athletics, and Dartmouth and the Ivy League are no exception. Yes, we did just mark the 40th anniversary of Title IX’s passage, and yes, federal law does require universities receiving federal funds to equally finance men’s and women’s athletic teams.

The cross country teams had strong showings this weekend at the Ivy League Cross Country Heptagonal Championships in Princeton, N.J., with the women taking home the Ivy title in a 6K race and the men finishing third in an 8K. The women ran away with the competition, defeating second-place Cornell University by 28 points.

The men’s and women’s rugby teams seem to have forgotten how to lose. Both teams tackled, ran and kicked their way to undefeated records, putting on spectacular performances wherever they travel. This weekend, they hope to continue their stellar seasons in two different tournaments. The men will compete in the North Ivy Sevens Championship, while the women will compete in the Ivy Fifteens championships, which will both be staged at the Corey Ford rugby clubhouse in Hanover.

Zan Song '16, a native of Shenzhen, hasn't been home since freshman fall, but her eyes still light up as she describes the savory dishes found in a Muslim district near her home. Her affinity for Chinese-Muslim food drew her to a diverse array of noodle soups, meat dumplings and sandwiches, among which a type of pork sandwich named "rou jia mo" stands out. A successful rou jia mo spread should have spotted exterior similar to leopard print. To complement the crisp, dry surface, the moist interior is infused with juice after the pork is placed on top of the bread. The meat also has to be extremely well-cooked in order to reach the ideal level of succulent tenderness.

One of the best opponents the Big Green (5-4-3, 2-1 Ivy) has faced this season, BU (9-3-3, 4-1 Patriot League) sits 100 spots above Dartmouth on the NCAA Division I rankings.
