Over the course of my term abroad in Spain, I have followed recent events at Dartmouth from a relative distance, and I have been horrified. But in spite of the chaos, I cannot agree with the automatic and impetuous outcry against the Greek system.

This week, faithful readers, we have decided to take our talents off of the field and exercise the biggest muscles we have: our brains. This might surprise those of you who have seen Freddie work out in Alumni Gym. I was shocked myself, but yes, our brains. And to those of you who say differently because you “looked it up” and that “isn’t true” because the “brain is an organ, not a muscle,” just get over yourselves and find a hobby. We write the column, we put our gluteus maximuses (see how I incorporated that, nerds who looked up the biggest muscle?) on the line and write what we want.

I am a college journalist, but I consider myself light-years away from being qualified to write professionally. My vocabulary isn't extensive enough, my knowledge of political and world issues isn't broad enough and I've yet to fully get over my fear of harsh criticism (read: rude online comments). So, in the Venn diagram of college and professional journalism, it's pretty easy for me to fill in the two opposing sides. The overlapping center, however, may have just as many bullet points. And, I would argue, more substantial ones.

An annual national survey found that there is a wide disparity between the percentages of high school and college educators who believe their students are prepared for college-level work, according to The Washington Post. In 2012, 89 percent of high school teachers believed their students were either "well" or "very well" prepared, while only 26 percent of college professors agreed. This inconsistency follows data from 2009, when the study found that 91 and 26 percent of high school and college educators believed their students were ready for college, respectively. The report recommends that teachers and professors work together to design curricula that prepare students for rigorous college workloads, as well as increase student access to computers.
