Of all the bans to strike the Dartmouth campus this year, none have so profoundly affected student life as the recent hoverboard ban. First it was hard alcohol, next it was Greek life and now the administration is cracking down on student transportation. And I know what you’re thinking: Isn’t Dartbeat responsible for the ban in the first place? I assure you that Luke McCann, the Dartbeat reporter who last month threatened to withhold donations from the College should hoverboards remain on campus, has since been shunned:

The men’s lacrosse team opened up the season with a narrow 10-8 loss to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, putting the Big Green at 0-1 and Sacred Heart at 2-1.

The women’s hockey team fell 1-0 to both Cornell University and Colgate University on the road this weekend to finish the 2015-2016 season with a 6-19-3 overall record, 6-13-3 record in ECAC play.

On Feb. 19, the then No. 40, now No. 38 Dartmouth men’s tennis team followed up its two victories over Brown University and St. John’s University last week to win its third consecutive match, defeating the then No. 45, now unranked University of Minnesota 5-2 at the Boss Tennis Center. Over the past weekend, the then No. 41, now No. 31 Dartmouth women’s team dominated its two opponents, defeating the then No. 58, now No. 56 Minnesota Gophers 7-0 and the University of Massachusetts 6-1. The win against UMass was the team’s fifth consecutive victory, improving the team’s overall record to 6-2. In the season, the team has also won an astounding seven out of eight of its double points, propelling the team to consistently start out with an early lead.

The women’s basketball team extended its win streak to four games, beating Cornell University 60-52 and Columbia University 63-53 at home this past weekend. The weekend’s victories improve the Big Green’s record to 11-15 overall and 6-4 in league.

The men’s hockey team split a pair of weekend games, surging past Colgate University for a 5-2 victory on Friday night before falling 1-0 to Cornell University on senior night. The Big Green’s conference record of 11-9-0 (14-12-1 overall) is good for a tie for fifth in the ECAC.

This weekend told an all too familiar tale for the Big Green women’s swim and dive team, as they finished in eighth place in the Ivy League Championships for the third straight year. Despite several record-breaking performances, the women finished with 532.5 points, seven points behind seventh-place Cornell University and trailing winner Harvard University by almost 1,000.

This past weekend, Dartmouth men’s basketball team commenced the second half of its conference season, vying to disentangle itself from a four-way tie at the bottom of the league standings. In its second look at its two New York-based Ivy League foes, the Big Green (9-15, 3-7 Ivy) convincingly triumphed over Cornell University (9-15, 2-8) 78-66 on Friday night, but could not sustain an early lead against Columbia University (19-8, 8-2 Ivy) on Saturday in falling apart 73-54.

There is no boil, boil, toil and trouble, hooked noses or broomsticks to be found in “The Witch” (2015), the debut feature from Robert Eggers. Set in pre-Salem witch trial New England, the film takes folklore and written narratives from the era and spins them into a period piece of unsettling magnitude. Eggers spotlights this rarely studied era, and captures the paranoiac underpinnings that led to the mass hysteria of the 1692 witch-hunts.

In its final tune up before the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, the track and field team received strong individual performances at the Boston University Valentine Invitational and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Gordon Kelly Invitational this past weekend. The Valentine Invitational took place on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12 to 13, at the BU Track and Tennis Center in Boston, while the Gordon Kelly Invitational took place on Saturday at the Johnson Athletic Center at MIT.

Over the weekend, the No. 34 Dartmouth men’s tennis team played in the ECAC Indoor Championship in Philadelphia, which consisted of St. John’s University and all the Ivy League teams except Columbia University. The team played a total of three teams during the tournament, falling to the University of Pennsylvania in a tough 3-4 battle but rallying to defeat Brown University 4-0 and St. John’s 4-1 to secure fifth place.

Over Winter Carnival weekend, the then No. 5 men’s squash team fell 8-1 to then No. 4, now No. 2 Yale University in Hanover, followed by a 7-2 victory over No. 16 Brown University in Providence. The team finished the regular season 9-4 and ultimately ranked seventh in the country.

The women’s hockey team beat Union College 3-1 on Friday to keep the Dutchwomen winless in 31 games. The next day, the team fell to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 2-1 in a tight contest. The Big Green improved to 6-17-3 overall and 6-11-3 in ECAC Hockey play.

Desperate to escape a four-game losing streak that has cast a pall over prospects for conference success, the Dartmouth men’s basketball team entered last weekend with a chance to prove itself against the best team in the Ivy League, as well as a contest against a more evenly matched side. While the former case saw the Big Green (8-14, 2-6) relinquish a once-stable lead to lose 75-65 to Yale University (17-5, 8-0) on Friday, the team rebounded the following night to decisively triumph over Brown University (7-15, 2-6) 87-70.

Last night at the Dartmouth Entrepreneurial Network Innovation Center, director of entrepreneurship and DEN Jamie Coughlin gave a lecture on venture formation as part of DEN’s six-week “Six to Start Startup Bootcamp.” The program aims to educate students, faculty, alumni and community members interested in entrepreneurship and start-ups, featuring workshops that address various business-related topics.

After a three-week break, the No. 5 men’s squash team stormed back onto the courts this past weekend to secure a thrilling victory against No. 12 Cornell University 5-4 before losing to No. 8 Columbia University 5-4 the next day. The women’s team also travelled to New York but dropped both games to Cornell and Columbia 8-1. Then on Tuesday, both the men and women’s squash teams picked up wins, traveling to Williams College and sweeping the Ephs. The men’s team (8-3, 3-2) continued their remarkable season with a 6-3 victory, while the No. 11 women (4-8, 0-5) ended its two-game skid with a 5-4 nail-biter.

Coming off of two overtime games on the road in New York the previous weekend, the women’s basketball team sought to come out strong on its home turf last weekend against two perennial Ivy League powerhouses, Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania. The weekend resulted in a sweep of the home team. Dartmouth lost 85-48 to Princeton (15-4, 4-1 Ivy) and fell against Penn (16-3, 5-0 Ivy), the top team in the league, 56-41. The weekend’s losses mark the Big Green’s third loss in a row and leaves the team at 2-4 in league play and 7-15 overall.
