South Bend, Ind., the location for the Big Green's second round game, recorded winds of 15 mph and gusts over 20 mph. Dartmouth won the coin toss and decided to play with the wind for the first half, leading to a 13-7 shooting advantage.

Dartmouth's equestrian team rounded out its Fall season with a final show at Endicott College, a school new to Dartmouth's region. Dartmouth competes in Zone 1, Region 2 of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. The Big Green placed fifth out of 12 teams at the show.

Multiple Dartmouth varsity athletes were given All-Ivy Honors this week. Women's volleyball player Madeline Baird '12 was named Ivy League Player of the Week after matches against Columbia University and Cornell University. In the Columbia game, Baird recorded 14 kills and 14 digs, and notched an impressive 21 kills in Dartmouth's triumph over Cornell. Baird has had double-digit kills in 20 of 21 matches this season, and her average of 3.98 kills per set is the second highest in the conference. This week's award is Baird's second Player of the Week recognition this season. Football player Shawn Abuhoff '12 was named Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week. Abuhoff earned the recognition after an 82-yard punt return for a touchdown at Dartmouth's Homecoming game against Harvard University. Abuhoff's lengthy return also put him in the Big Green record books as the second all-time in combined kick and punt-return yardage, with 1,630 yards to his name. This week's recognition was Abuhoff's fourth weekly League award in his career at Dartmouth. Varsity men's soccer forward Lucky Mkosana '12 was named Ivy League Co-Player of the Week alongside Princeton University's Matt Sanner. Both players scored a game-winning goal for their respective teams during the past weekend's Ivy play. Mkonsana's game-winning goal came during Dartmouth's 2-1 Homecoming victory over Harvard. Mkosana is the Big Green's fifth all-time scorer with 53 points.

More than 8,000 athletes and 300,000 spectators gatherer at the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass., over the weekend for the 46th Head of the Charles Regatta the largest and one of the most prestigious crew regattas in the world. Amidst the thousands competing, Dartmouth was heavily represented in each classification. While current varsity men's heavyweight and lightweight crew teams began their season with the event, Dartmouth crew alumni also had a chance to reunite and compete.

Athletic Director Harry Sheehy announced that Rachel Hanson will take over as the women's head softball coach for the 2011 season. Hanson is replacing Christine Vogt, who stepped down as head coach earlier this year after six seasons at Dartmouth.

A string of controversies surrounding the University of North Dakota's choice of symbol forced the school to abandon its former emblem, the Figthing Sioux, on April 8, after using the tribe as its representative since the 1930s. UND's former Native American symbol caused controversy in Hanover in 2006 when Dartmouth, who also previously used an Indian as its moniker, played against the UND men's hockey team. Former Dartmouth's Athletic Director Josie Harper wrote a letter to The Dartmouth apologizing for allowing the Dartmouth men's hockey team to compete against UND after the game. In her letter, Harper wrote that allowing the Big Green to play the Fighting Sioux would "understandably offend and hurt people within our community".

The biggest employers of Dartmouth's Class of 2008 were the investment bank Goldman Sachs and the consulting firm McKinsey, but non-profits Teach for America and the Peace Corps rounded out the top four, according to Forbes.com. The titans of corporate America likely explain Dartmouth's No.1 national ranking when it comes to salary 10 years after graduation, but, as the statistics show, many alumni opt for less profitable career paths.

The Dartmouth cycling team has been "riding bicycles fast since 1961," according to its web site, and the slogan remains true in 2010. Finishing fourth in the Ivy League in 2009 and looking to host a major championship race at the end of April, Big Green cycling has maintained a competitive reputation on the East Coast as well as across the country.
