Since the ski season began on Dec. 14, the Dartmouth Skiway has received 60 inches of snow, putting an end to a pattern of mild winters. After one of the snowiest seasons in recent years, the Skiway has seen high attendance and opened access to all 31 trails.

Students in a new environmental policy workshop will learn the tools necessary to conduct research on environmental issues while preparing to present their findings to the Vermont and New Hampshire legislatures. The course, launched by the Rockefeller Center and the environmental studies department, will serve as a prerequisite for students hoping to continue their projects in the Policy Research Shop.

The Committee on Student Safety and Accountability released its final report recommending goals for mitigating problems ranging from residential life to campus climate issues on Thursday afternoon. COSSA was established by former College President Jim Yong Kim in February 2012 to examine issues of sexual assault, hazing and binge drinking.

Ponka-We Victors, the first Native American woman in the Kansas House of Representatives, decided to run in the election when the previous representative helped her file as the lone Democratic primary candidate 10 hours before the deadline. At her swearing-in ceremony, Victors wore her great-grandmother’s regalia to recognize her heritage in the Ponca tribe.

It occurred to Dunne, the head of community affairs at Google, that his son was thinking in "search," asking for his father to find the photo on the Internet. Younger generations see the world in a fundamentally different way than older ones because of the enormous amount of information that is now available through the Internet and its search engines, leading to necessary adaptations in education, Dunne said.

Following the arrest of two men who traveled to the College with the band RaRaM de NY, the band returned the money the College paid them to perform and sent a letter apologizing that the men, who were not official members of the band, stole laptops and backpacks from Psi Upsilon fraternity.

The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Raymond Fredson and 25-year-old Jean Charles, allegedly stole three laptop computers, three backpacks and multiple other items from four members of the fraternity. The men performed with the band but are not official members, RaRaM spokesperson Max St. Arromand said.

Reported forcible sex offenses increased to 24 in 2012 from 15 in 2011, while burglary reports increased to 16 from nine the year before. Liquor law arrests dropped to 16 from 40, while liquor law violations referred for disciplinary action more than doubled, with 83 in 2012 and 40 in 2011. Drug law arrests increased to 16 from 12, and drug law violations referred for disciplinary actions doubled from 10 to 20. Arson reports increased to three in 2012 from two in 2011.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center officials met with a special state tax commission on Thursday to discuss how New Hampshire taxes hospitals, the Associated Press reported. The representatives said DHMC is penalized with taxes for integrating laboratory services, outpatient oncology and ambulance care with Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, though it is in the patients' best interest to do so. Until 2011, hospitals were refunded state tax money, but the federal government now requires the state to distribute money based on the Medicaid cost of each respective hospital, the report said.
