The Dartmouth Women’s Golf team etched its name into the history books last weekend, claiming its first-ever Ivy League title at the Ivy championship tournament. The tournament took place at the Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Connecticut from April 19 to April 21.

The Dartmouth men’s and women’s golf seasons are underway, despite snowy weather at the start of the term. Both teams have fared well in their tournaments to date, with the women’s team securing a third-place finish in the Rutgers Invitational and the men’s team taking second at the Columbia Autumn Invitational from April 6 to 7.

On March 30, 200 students gathered at the Dartmouth Skiway to participate in Pond Skim — an annual College tradition celebrating the end of the winter ski season. Participants skied down a short run and then skimmed across a pool of water dressed in “flair” — wacky and colorful clothing emblematic of Dartmouth’s silly traditions.

It was an atypical evening in Leede Arena. As the visiting Harvard University Crimson traveled to Hanover, the press table was unusually stuffed with reporters from across the country. More pictures were taken, more questions were asked.

Now, only one contest remains. The Dartmouth Big Green men’s basketball team made their final weekend road trip, with contests at Yale University and Brown University on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

On Friday night in Leede Arena, the story was much the same as throughout the Dartmouth men’s basketball season. With 8:05 remaining in the first half, University of Pennsylvania’s lead was already 24-11. A revolving door starting lineup and poor shooting to open contests have led to a season-long tradition of starting games slowly for the Big Green. Coach David McLaughlin spoke on the struggles of finishing possessions throughout.

On Sunday, Feb. 11, Super Bowl LVIII crowned the Kansas City Chiefs as the champions of the 2023-24 NFL season. Besting the San Francisco 49ers 25–22 in overtime, the Chiefs summited the American Football pyramid for the second year in a row, and for the third time in the past 5 years. In recent memory, the Chiefs, led by superstar quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, have been the team to beat. They have made the AFC Conference championship every year since 2018 and have made the Super Bowl in four of the past five years. Despite this precedent, the 49ers were the odds’ favorite going into the game.

Down 21-12 with 7:45 remaining in the first half, the Big Green seemed unfit to stop Yale University’s 10-0 scoring run. Worse still, Dartmouth hadn’t scored a point of their own in the last 4:08.
(01/19/24 6:00am)
With 4:25 remaining in the first half and the Big Green down 35-22, Brandon Mitchell-Day ’26 caught a pass at the top of the key and knew he needed to make a play. He had just set a pin-down off-ball screen for Dusan Neskovic ’24 and now eyed up the defense of Ivy League’s cream of the crop, the Princeton Tigers.

It’s that time of year again. From slams to buckets to the “nothing but nylons,” college basketball will return in one week. The Dartmouth Big Green’s first contest will take place on Nov. 6 after a 10-18 overall, 6-8 conference campaign last year. They will open the season with a marquee matchup, visiting the No. 2 Duke University Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.

The National Football League, or the NFL, is the most-watched professional sports league in the United States, surmounting the likes of the NBA, NHL and MLB for the crown of American sports. On average, 16.7 million viewers tune into each NFL regular season game. Therefore, with such widespread viewership, it begs the question: where do Dartmouth students watch NFL games?

On Thursday, Oct. 5th, the College’s lawyers responded to the men’s basketball team’s filing to unionize on Sept. 10, arguing that student athletes cannot be considered employees because their scholarship role does not depend on participation while the college loses money from Dartmouth’s basketball program. Joe McConnell, who represented Dartmouth in a National Labor Relations Board hearing, suggests that the term “student athletes” and the way it is used at national powerhouse athletic programs, such as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Kansas, is also applicable at Dartmouth.
