Each week, Dartbeat asks a group of musically inclined students to recommend their favorite songs of the week. We then share a few of those tracks. Enjoy!

Joywave — Tongues ft. KOPPS

Grace Miller: I first discovered Joywave when they opened at a Bleachers concert, and “Tongues” has been playing on repeat ever since (side note: for those that have only listened to "Wanna Get Better" you should listen to the rest of Bleachers' album). Joywave was the definition of snarky — between songs, the lead singer would bring up little inside jokes the band has, making fun of each other. This could have been annoying, but it just made me want to be a part of their clique (especially because the lead singer somehow actually pulls off a creepy pedophile mustache). Immediately after the concert I pulled up “Tongues” and discovered that the music video is just as strange as they are (and slightly NSFW, beware). Enjoy!

Smallpools — Killer Whales

Samantha Webster: I can’t stop listening to this song this week. Over, and over and over again. Which reminds me of another Smallpools song that you should also check out — called "Over & Over." Two-song pick of the week? Oops. Definitely don't understand the message of the lyrics for “Killer Whales.” Definitely do understand that I'm obsessed with it and have been listening to it while studying, while showering and while dancing around in my room. Did this slew of random facts not make you want to go listen to this song? Just take my word for it.

Ben Khan — 1000

Koryn Ternes: British soul artist Ben Khan is back with his latest single and soon to be title track to his upcoming EP, “1000.” The track combines bass, blues and guitar all played and produced by Khan himself in his bedroom. This flirty song is very catchy, and also pretty relatable with lines like, “I don’t need much, just a touch. Cause you’re just a crush.” If you like what you hear, be sure to check out his entire album when it drops on May 11.
