KAF revamps summer menu, but still no sandwiches

Starting this week, King Arthur Flour’s Baker-Berry cafe will revamp its menu to include additional lunch offerings. However, KAF sandwiches will never return, due to space and shipping concerns, retail and cafe operations director Kelly Mousley said.

For the first two weeks of summer term, the cafe only served pastries and beverages.

“The sandwiches aren’t coming back, but our plan all along has been to reintroduce some lunch items,” Mousley said.

By late August, King Arthur Flour will release the cafe’s fall menu. During the summer, the cafe will experiment with its offerings by serving grain and pasta salads, spreads and yogurt.

Mousley said that business has always been slower in the summer. Fewer students are on campus, and some visitors to campus don’t know about the cafe. During previous terms, the cafe received up to six deliveries each day.

This summer, the company hopes to send only two or three shipments to the cafe. KAF also scales down its staff during the summer, and some employees are transitioned to the company’s Norwich business, where there is a constant influx of customers, Mousley said.

King Arthur Flour maintains a business partnership with the College, Mousley said.

“They’ve been really open with us,” she said. “We meet several times each year to keep ourselves informed on things.”

However, Mousley stressed that King Arthur Flour independently makes business decisions, such as updating product selection and modifying cafe hours.
