13X Cribs: Red Barn

The aptly named “Red Barn” is a quaint six-person house located at 3 West Street, near the bottom of the West Wheelock Street hill.

The house is divided into two sections, linked on the first floor by a dining room, half bathroom and spacious living room full of futons and couches. Since the house could be rented as two separate apartments, the first floor has two kitchens with bedrooms on either side.

Each separate section upstairs hosts bedrooms and a full bathroom.

Although the house is not air-conditioned, a major downside for summer tenants, having two kitchens and a large living room makes entertaining guests easy for the residents.

The house has two parking spaces outside and an overhang the perfect size to protect a pong table or a few lawn chairs from the rain. Former residents left a carefully painted pong table for the summer residents bearing the phrase, “It is a small barn and yet…there are those who love it.”

Current tenant Charlotte Snow ’15 said that the house’s most unusual feature is a series of nature posters in the living room, left behind by former residents.

The lease currently belongs to members of Theta Delta Chi fraternity.
