All Put Together: Sunglasses

Now that the sun has finally arrived at Dartmouth, it’s time to whip out your sunglasses. Shades are a pretty great accessory and are multifunctional to boot. They can help you accessorize your outfit, hide dark circles caused by sleep deprivation, help you avoid people you don’t want to talk to and protect your eyes from the sun while doing all of the above.

Sorry for getting a little off topic. Sunglasses are an essential part of your spring and summer wardrobe, so here a few tips and style ideas.

Round sunglasses have been pretty popular for quite a few years, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of style. In a sea of Ray-Ban Wayfarers and squared sunglasses, round frames always stand out. Kate Spade Saturday’s Circle Sunnies are great for adding a little color and fun to your outfit.

Statement sunglasses are also trendy this spring. Personally, I love sunglasses that are embellished with flowers, particularly roses. These sunglasses from Anna Sui (pictured above) are the perfect example of statement sunglasses. The flowers give the glasses a feminine and playful touch, and go well with any pastel colors. If you don’t feel like spending money on a trend that will probably only last two seasons, you can always grab an old pair and decorate them with rhinestones, pearls, bows or something more unique, like Legos. I’m totally going after my brother’s when I go home. It’s not like he plays with them anymore.

Choose anything with color! Sunglasses are typically black, white or tortoise. I’m guilty of owning quite a few pairs of black and tortoise sunglasses. Colorful sunglasses stand out because they are so unique. They probably won’t be able to hide you from people, but they’re great for accessorizing. This green pair from A.J. Morgan is a great addition for your spring and summer wardrobe.

And of course, the classic look is never a bad thing. It means you can probably wear it for many years to come. If you do choose to buy something classic, I suggest you invest in a good pair of sunglasses. I’m currently in love with my Elizabeth and James cat-eye sunglasses. They’re perfect for any outfit, and the gold makes them different from your typical pair of cat-eye glasses.
