The Dartbeat guide to picking your classes

Crafting a major portion of your Dartmouth experience — choosing your own courses — is not always an intuitive task. The ideal schedule will challenge students to improve their intellect, while not constantly hosing them with unreasonable demands. It’s very easy to make a schedule that forces you to completely overextend yourself, but just as easy to feel underwhelmed by your classes.

Creating your perfect Dartmouth experience is an art, and I always tell friends that the most important thing in creating your academic experience is to always consider what will bring you one step closer to your goals. That said, there are a few specific tips that can greatly improve your academic life at the College:

Have a balanced class schedule.

Carefully consider your comparative advantages and weaknesses.

Tighten your time slots.

Consider a four or two-course term.
