Christian Fong Tu ’05 announced the suspension of his campaign for governor of Iowa on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported.

Fong, an executive with the insurance company AEGON USA, was seeking the Republican nomination in his first run for public office.

"Our vision was clear, but the financial hurdles too great," Fong said in a statement.

Fong’s campaign centered on economic issues and improving Iowa’s unemployment rate. A self-described social and fiscal conservative, Fong said in the statement that he would like to remain involved in the gubernatorial race to foster discussion about the economy and social issues.

At least six potential Republican gubernatorial nominees remain.
