Man assaulted in early morning

A 53-year-old man was assaulted early Sunday morning on West Wheelock St. He went to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries after the attack. Though Safety and Security director Harry Kinne originally said that the victim was a College employee, Hanover town manager Julia Griffin and Hanover Police chief Charlie Dennis said the victim is not affiliated with Dartmouth in interviews on Monday.

Around 1:30 a.m., a Safety and Security officer was on patrol near Robert’s Flowers when he saw an altercation, Safety and Security director Harry Kinne said Sunday afternoon. Two individuals ran from the scene, which drew the officer’s attention, and he then saw the man lying on the ground.

A witness confirmed to the officer that two people assaulted the man, Kinne said. The officer then called Hanover Police, who will continue the investigation.

Dennis was not immediately available for comment Sunday.

Kinne sent a campus-wide email early Sunday morning regarding the attack. The two people who ran from the scene were a blonde woman and a man in dark clothing, according to Kinne’s email.

Kinne said he could not identify the victim.

The assault marks the third on or near campus this summer. Just after midnight on July 2,a male student was assaulted and robbedon the Green, and the suspected assailants were first charged with felony counts of second-degree assault, unarmed robbery and falsifying physical evidence.

On Thursday evening,a Dartmouth Dining Services employee allegedly assaultedhis life coach in the Class of 1953 Commons. While the College issued a trespass letter to the employee, no arrests were made. The life coach did not need treatment.
