Blaine Steinberg ’15, of Wynnewood, Pa.,died of a heart attack Friday evening at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She was 20.
Steinberg's family will hold a funeral Monday at Main Line Reform Temple in Wynnewood.At her family’s request, the College will wait until the spring to hold a memorial service.
Though his daughter had been exercising shortly before her death, doctors emphasized that this activity did not cause the heart attack, Sid Steinberg, her father, said.
Steinberg, who graduated from William Penn Charter High Schoolin Philadelphia, studied history and international relations at the College. As a freshman, she was a member of Dartmouth's lacrosse team, but she stopped playing that fall after suffering two concussions. She was sports director for Dartmouth Broadcasting and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
Hundreds of students joined an open Facebook group to create a book of memories for Steinberg's family, sharing pictures and stories in the days following her death.
College President Phil Hanlon announced Steinberg’s death in an email to campus Friday evening.
Counselors and staff were available in the basement of Woodward Hall until 11 p.m. Friday night and between 2 and 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. These resources were also available at Dick’s House on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.
