Kantaria and Danford elected student body president and vice president

Suril Kantaria '13 defeated candidates Erin Klein '13, J.T. Tanenbaum '13, Rachel Wang '13 and Max Hunter '13 in the Student Assembly election on Monday, garnering 716 votes to become the next student body president, the Election Planning and Advisory Committee announced. A total of 2,239 votes were cast in the presidential race, up from 1,665 last year.

Klein received 705 votes, Tanenbaum received 701 votes, Wang received 335 votes and Hunter received 281 votes, according to EPAC chair Richard Stephenson '12.

Julia Danford '13 was elected student body vice president with 774 votes, while runners-up Sahil Joshi '13, Callista Womick '13 and Troy Dildine '13 received 759, 389 and 368 votes, respectively.

The candidates were selected using an approval voting system in which students could vote for as many candidates as they wanted.

The number of candidates running for both president and vice president was the highest in recent memory.

Voting was open for eligible students from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.
