Forward and assistant captain Doug Jones '12 was named one of the 20 men's hockey candidates for the 2012 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, according to a Thursday announcement on SeniorCLASSAward.com. The CLASS award, which stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, recognizes excellence in academics and athletics, as well as commitment to the community. Jones was the Big Green's second highest scorer last season, registering 29 points. As an economics major, Jones has maintained a 3.5 GPA and earned Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Academic honors during each of the past three seasons. The field of 20 candidates will be cut to 10 finalists midway through the season before fans, media and Division I coaches select the CLASS award's final winner.

Dartmouth ranked 13th out of 100 Division I institutions in the recently released National Collegiate Scouting Association's 2011 Collegiate Power Rankings, according to NCSASports.com. The NCSA poll considers each institution's academic quality by looking at the student-athlete graduation rate, the school's 2011 ranking in U.S. News & World Report and the strength of the institution's athletic program based on the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup rankings. The Big Green was ranked 30th in student-athlete graduation rate and ninth in the 2011 U.S. News & World Report rankings, but earned an athletic ranking of 77. All Ivy League schools placed highly in the poll. Princeton University topped other League schools with its fourth-place ranking, while the University of Pennsylvania ranked sixth. Dartmouth also trailed Harvard University and Yale University, which both cracked the top-10 with rankings of seven and nine, respectively. Rounding out the League was Brown Univerity in 14th place and Cornell University in 15th place. Columbia University trailed the rest of the conference in the 21st spot. Duke University and Stanford University ranked first and second, respectively.

Harvard University defeated Cornell University, 41-31, in this weekend's only other Ivy League football game. With the Crimson (3-1, 2-0 Ivy) trailing 24-20 in the third quarter, junior quarterback Colton Chapple threw three touchdown passes in a seven-minute stretch to give Harvard a commanding lead. Chapple threw for 414 yards, totaling the second-most passing yards ever by a Harvard player in a single game. Columbia University and Princeton University both fell to non-conference opponents this weekend, while Brown University and Penn University both won. The Quakers (2-2, 1-0 Ivy) topped Fordham University, 35-20, and Brown (3-1, 0-1 Ivy) snuck by with a 20-13 victory over the College of the Holy Cross, which the Big Green plays on Saturday.
