Herbert to step in as vice president for development

Associate Vice President for Development Tom Hebert will become the College's vice president for development on June 13, according to a College press release. Herbert, who was appointed after a national search, succeeds Vice President for Advancement Carolyn Pelzel, who assumed her current position in April 2010.

As vice president for development, Herbert will supervise the College's fundraising initiatives and will assist the graduate schools' fundraising efforts, according to the press release.

Since coming to the College as associate vice president for development in 2010, Herbert has overseen the College's gift planning office, managed the office of foundation relations and led the leadership giving team, which interacts with major individual donors, according to the press release.

Herbert, who co-authored a textbook on fundraising programs, previously worked in the fundraising offices of Drake University, Indiana University and the University of Michigan. He received his bachelor degree in history from Northwestern University and his JD from Illinois Institute of Technology-Chicago-Kent College of Law.

The vice president for development search committee, chaired by biology professor Mary Lou Guerinot, was comprised of Dean of the Faculty Michael Mastanduno, acting Vice President for Alumni Relations Patsy Fisher, Dean of the Thayer School of Engineering Joseph Helble and Brian Lally, chief advancement officer for Dartmouth Medical School and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, according to the press release.
