Sigma Delta charged with three felony counts

Sigma Delta sorority was charged with three counts of providing alcohol to minors, a felony, according to a press release from Hanover Police.

According to the release, Hanover Police responded to a call on Sept. 21 involving an intoxicated 19 year old at the College. Subsequent investigation determined that alcoholic beverages consumed by the individual were obtained from Sigma Delt.

Sigma Delt had also been investigated in April in connection with two other instances in which minors had been served alcohol. At the time, Hanover Police issued warnings to officials at the sorority, stating that the cases were to be suspended, but that they would bring charges on the past counts if future cases of service to minors arose.

Sigma Delt's president is scheduled to appear before the Lebanon District Court on Oct. 18 to answer the charges, according to the release.

The Tabard coed fraternity faced a similar situation in June, when Hanover Police brought two charges - one a previously suspended charge - against the organization after an underage student was found to be intoxicated.

Tabard pled no contest to the charges, and agreed to pay a $2,000 fine for each charge, as well as complete 500 community service hours.
