Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center was recognized as one of the nation's premier hospitals, according to the U.S. News and World Report's 2010-11 ranking of America's best hospitals. With a score of 46.7 out of 100, DHMC was ranked 44th in the nation for its services in gynecology. U.S. News analyzed almost 5,000 medical centers nationwide on various criteria including the survival rate of patients, patient safety, services and technologies available in specialty and reputation, according to the report. This is the fourth year in a row and eighth year since 1995 that DHMC has been recognized by U.S. News for its care in obstetrics and gynecology, the Vermont Business Magazine reported.

The College received a grant of $200,000 from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations to fund the extension of Dartmouth's Language in Motion program, according to the College's website. Dartmouth, which piloted the program this past academic year, is one of 10 institutions in the nation to sponsor the collaboration between college students and the local community. LIM connects College students with students at four public high schools in the area so that College students, aided by the Tucker Foundation, can share their knowledge and experiences with high school students. Through meetings with teachers and class presentations, Dartmouth students discuss topics such as study abroad programs, internships and service programs in foreign countries in order to improve the "international curricula" at the partner schools, according to the program's website. Initiatives to expand LIM include programs to encourage high school teachers' professional development led by Jay Davis, an education professor at the College. Pennsylvania's Juniata College began the LIM program in order to "share the world" with K-12 students and to allow rural teachers to establish classrooms that incorporate language and cultural activities, according to Juniata College's website.
