Director of Safety and Security Harry Kinne is temporarily serving as interim associate Dean of the College, filling in for Marcia Kelly, who is acting as interim secretary to the Board of Trustees, The Dartmouth confirmed on Monday.
The administrative shift occurred shortly before the resignation of Dean of the College Tom Crady, who had been in office for less than two years, and the recent departure of several other senior deans.
"I am just on loan to help the division in the time of transition to fill in for Marcia," Kinne said in an interview with The Dartmouth.
Keiselim Montas, associate director of Safety and Security, is filling in as interim director.
In his interim position, Kinne is in charge of overseeing Safety and Security, Career Services and the Reserve Officers' Training Corps.
Kinne said he has been workingclosely with several of the other deans on a variety of projects.
Kinne, who said he expects to return to his role as director of Safety and Security by Jan. 1, estimated that he began working as associate dean at the end of July or at the beginning of August.
Kelly will return to her position as associate Dean of the College once a replacement is found to serve as the secretary to the Board.
"I'm interim with every anticipation of returning to Safety and Security," Kinne said.
Kinne said that his move was unrelated to Crady's resignation or to other recent changes in the Dean of the College's Office.
"I don't think it was related to either of those departures," Kinne said. "This was something where one of the senior staff people was asked to take on duties in the President's Office, and I was asked to come over and help out and take on some of those responsibilities."
Kinne said that Crady had asked him to serve as interim dean before his August departure from the College.
Montas' position as interim director of Safety and Security became effective on Aug. 19, the day before Crady's resignation.
Acting Dean of the College Sylvia Spears could not be reached for comment by press time on Monday evening.
