Daily Debriefing

Police are currently questioning a suspect who failed a lie detector test in their investigation of the murder of Annie Le, a Yale University pharmacology graduate student, according to CBS News. Officials found Le's body hidden in a wall in a building at the medical school on Sunday. Security cameras recorded Le entering the building last Tuesday, but did not record her departure, the Yale Daily News reported. Access to the building is limited to those with approved Yale identification cards. Le's fiance is not considered a suspect in the case, according to the Daily News.

Warren Schor, a student at Cornell University, died of complications from H1N1 influenza on Friday, according to a university press release. Schor was one of 520 students at Cornell to be diagnosed with influenza-type illnesses in the past three weeks. The university has worked with volunteers to make flu kits available for students recovering in their residence halls or at home. Cornell's Gannett Health Services has asked students with flu symptoms to remain in their rooms and to stay at least six feet away from others until they have gone at least 24 hours without a fever.

Despite President Barack Obama's hope to replace bank-based guaranteed student loan programs with a federal direct-lending program by next year, most colleges will continue to use the bank-based option, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported on Friday. A poll by Student Lending Analytics found that over half of 453 universities surveyed will continue to use the guaranteed loan program next year, while only 8 percent said they would switch to direct lending, according to The Chronicle. Some university officials expressed concern over the administrative costs of the switch to direct lending and whether universities will still be able to choose among competing lenders, The Chronicle said.
