Police Blotter

April 3, 9:31 p.m.

Lyme Road

Following up on a Jan. 31 car accident, Hanover Police charged a 21-year-old male with reckless driving, falsely reporting a stolen vehicle, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and improper conduct after an accident. At the original scene, Hanover Police found an unoccupied vehicle that had crashed near Ledyard Bridge. After entering the vehicle's license plate into the state registry, Hanover Police identified the owner. When questioned, the owner denied involvement in the accident and claimed his vehicle had been stolen. Police have since learned that the owner was the driver of the vehicle at the time of the crash. He had left the scene because he was intoxicated. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 13.

Hanover Police received a call that a subject was sitting in the lobby of the closed Bank of America building. He was holding a laptop and had left the door open. The subject informed Hanover Police that he was installing an alarm system and had wanted to test its effectiveness. No charges were filed.

A Hanover Police officer arrived at the First Baptist Church to find a car entirely covered with "For Sale" signs. There was no apparent owner nearby, so the officer ran its plates. While on patrol, a Hanover Police officer observed three males carrying what appeared to be open cans of beer. The officer questioned the males and discovered they were not Dartmouth undergraduates, but of-age students from Germany who were on campus visiting friends. No charges were filed, although in compliance with New Hampshire's open container laws, the German students had to dump out the beer.

Allen Street

Suspecting that a student was attempting to purchase alcohol with a fake ID, a store clerk at Stinson's Village Store contacted Hanover Police. When the officers arrived, the clerk was on the phone with the Hanover Police dispatcher, who was trying to verify the student's ID, a Florida driver's license. Meanwhile, the student, a 19-year-old female, remained standing at the counter with three bottles of wine. When Hanover Police failed to authenticate the license, the student admitted it was fake. The officers placed her under arrest and took her to the station for booking. She has a court date of May 13.

April 6, 1:24 a.m.

Crosby Street

Hanover Police pulled over a driver after witnessing erratic behavior. Whenever the driver reached an intersection, she would suddenly speed up, only to slow down immediately thereafter. She then made a right turn without signaling, and Hanover Police caught up to her after she swerved over the yellow line. The driver appeared to be intoxicated and was arrested for driving under the influence. The case is still being processed and a court date has not yet been set.

April 9, 11:38 p.m.

Dartmouth Safety and Security requested assistance from Hanover Police to respond to the complaint of a fire. It appeared that a member of Chi Gamma Epsilon fraternity accidentally started a fire when he tossed his cigarette into a trash can. He assumed it contained empty cans of beer, though it was filled with paper. The fire was already extinguished by the time Hanover Police arrived on the scene, and the matter was resolved without incident.
