Police Blotter

October 3, 2:41 p.m., River Road

A Hanover Police officer behind a school bus observed a red pickup truck pass the bus, ignoring the flashing lights and the extended swing arm indicating that the bus was dropping off children. The officer stopped the truck and issued a summons for the driver to appear in court.

October 5, 11:13 p.m., Maynard Street

Hanover Police officers were called to Rauner Hall by Safety and Security after Safety and Security found a 16-year-old girl at a party where alcohol was present. The girl, who did not appear intoxicated and claimed to have consumed less than one beer, told police she was staying with a friend, a Dartmouth freshman. Police took her into protective custody and eventually returned her to her parents, who were staying in White River Junction, Vt. The Dartmouth students at the party are still under investigation for alcohol possession and consumption.

October 6, 4:14 a.m., South Main Street and Lebanon Street

Police observed a visibly intoxicated male stagger up South Main Street, cross Lebanon Street and sit down on the front step of 44 South Main St., where the man promptly fell asleep. Police approached the man and attempted to rouse him. When asked if he knew where he was, the man first appeared to stare off into space, and eventually told police he was on "second base." When police asked the man for his identification, he handed them a credit card. When asked again, he dropped several cards from his wallet, including his Dartmouth identification card, before finally finding his driver's license. Since the student is 21 years old, police took him into protective custody and later turned him over to Safety and Security.

October 6, 1:10 p.m., Lebanon Street and Crosby Street

Upon arriving at a fork in the road on Lebanon Street, where the options are to turn right past Memorial Field or left towards the center of Hanover, a 38-year-old man chose neither. Instead, he drove straight ahead and left the road, crashing into the brick wall in front of the Facilities, Operations and Management headquarters and smashing a junction box for local phone service. The man had to be extricated from his car by the Hanover Fire Department and was promptly arrested for driving with a suspended licence and driving under the influence of alcohol. Police also took blood and urine samples to test for the presence of drugs, which are still being processed.

October 6, 10:29 p.m., North Park Street

Police responded to a call that there appeared to be an intoxicated man wandering towards Berry Field House. Police found the male, a Dartmouth freshman, staggering down the middle of East Wheelock Street. The student, who had watery, bloodshot eyes and difficulty standing without swaying, asked police if they could give him a ride back to his dormitory. The officers refused and brought the student back to police headquarters for booking. He was later released to the custody of Safety and Security.

October 8, 11:11 a.m., Lyme Road

Police arrested a non-Dartmouth juvenile male as a result of an ongoing investigation dating back to early September. The suspect was charged with felonious sexual assault, sexual assault and attempted sexual assault. Police have identified at least five victims, whose ages are being withheld.
