Ben Taylor '07 won in the final round of Jeopardy last Friday with a total of $25,599. Taylor first tried out for the game-show online then auditioned in Boston, but did not hear back from the officials until a year later. In March, Taylor received a voice-mail informing him that he had been selected for the show which would be taped in California. The entire taping of the show was done in 35-50 minutes and happened so quickly that Taylor does not really remember the categories, according to the Rockford Register Star. His contestants were 10-15 years his senior. He will return to California within the week to continue taping for the next round. Taylor told the Rockford that he did not feel pressure at all in the first taping, but is nervous for the upcoming round.
The cost of prescription birth-control pills will double and triple on college campuses nation-wide this fall due to new regulations issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Traditionally, drug companies provided colleges with discounted prescription birth control but the new regulations have changed Medicare reimbursement rules, making it extremely expensive for pharmaceutical companies to continue offering low-cost birth control. According to the American College Health Association, 39 percent of college women use oral contraceptives and American College Health Association officials worry that this new price hike will cause students to use less reliable forms of birth control, or neglect to use it altogether. The Association is lobbying for legislation to reverse the impact of the new regulations on college health centers. Dick's House could not be reached at press time.
