The life of Meleia Willis-Starbuck '07 will be celebrated this Friday at an 8:00 p.m. dinner aimed at raising funds to purchase a memorial tree on the Green. Willis-Starbuck was accidently shot by a friend in July of 2005 in her hometown of Berkeley, Calif. The event will take place in Collis Common Ground and is sponsored by the Programming Board, Collis Governing Board, the Afro-American Society and La Alianza Latina. Performances include pianist David Sicilia, the Gospel Choir and SoulScribes. The Meleia Willis-Starbuck Memorial Tree Fund hopes to raise $2,500 by Sept. 15.
This Friday, the Programming Board is hosting a "Summer Carnival," to be held on Mass. Row and the Gold Coast from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. Partygoers can feast on a smorgasbord of free food, including cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken. After eating, visitors are encouraged to test their courage by enjoying gladiator jousting, a Velcro wall, water tag, a 34-foot-long slip and slide and "bouncy boxing." The carnival is hosted by many various organization: the Student Activities Office, the Admissions Office, Career Services, the athletic department, the First Year Office, Conferences and Special Events and the Afro-American Society.
One current and two former Dartmouth women's lacrosse team members have been picked for national teams, US Lacrosse announced recently. Team co-captain Whitney Douthett '07, goalkeeper Devon Wills '06 and midfielder Annie Leibovitz '06 were asked to join the US Lacrosse Teams, with Wills playing for the Elite team and Dohett and Leibovitz playing for the Developmental team. This past season, the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Championship, validating its preseason national ranking of third, before losing to Northwestern.
