Police Blotter

June 9, South Main Street, 1:24 a.m.

Police observed a white 1989 Pontiac with several construction signs hanging out of the trunk. Due to a recent rash of construction sign thefts on campus, officers stopped the vehicle and soon ascertained that the driver was intoxicated. Because the 33-year-old driver was driving without a license, police struggled to identify the man, who initially claimed to be his own brother. Police later discovered that the man had no license because it was revoked after an earlier citation for driving while intoxicated. The man was arrested for a second DWI, driving after revocation or suspension and giving a false report to law enforcement.

June 17, Valley Road, 10:51 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress at a local apartment. The 22-year-old female caller was house-sitting at the apartment while its owner was out of town. The woman had left earlier that morning to go jogging only to return and observe through a window that someone else was walking around inside the apartment. The woman then called the police, who quickly determined that she was observing an adjacent apartment rather than the one she was supposed to be house-sitting.

June 20, West Wheelock Street, 2:20 a.m.

Officers noticed a 20-year-old participant in the Tuck Bridge program who appeared to be urinating on the steps leading up to Theta Delta Chi fraternity. Upon closer inspection, officers determined that the student was indeed urinating and demanded that he stop so that they could check his sobriety. The police determined that the student was intoxicated but not to a point that required arrest. The officers turned him over to two passing friends.

June 21, Meadow Lane, 1:55 a.m.

Responding to a noise complaint from a neighboring residence, police arrived at a location near the Hanover Country Club golf course to break up a party attended mostly by Hanover High School students who had just finished their sophomore year. Police took eight students into custody mostly for alcohol-related charges and are still investigating as many as eight others who possibly fled the scene.

June 24, South Main Street, 11:44 p.m.

Safety and Security contacted Hanover Police when officers observed a 47-year-old man pull out the flowers from the boxes in front of the Hanover Inn. Police took the man into protective custody because the man was both mentally unstable and intoxicated
