Daily Debriefing

The student-led environmental coalition Sustainable Dartmouth is organizing "Sustainable Move-Out," a campaign to reduce the amount of waste generated by the College at the end of the term. The project will provide students with locations at most dorm buildings and Greek houses to can drop off unwanted items between May 30 and June 12. In the fall, the donated items will be resold at rummage sales, with proceeds going to local charities. Most items, including refrigerators, furniture and bikes, will be accepted for donation. Items not allowed include food and beverages, dirty and broken items, futon mattresses and toiletries. Dartmouth experiences a 300 percent spike in the waste volume each June, and the program's organizers hope to decrease the expense and environmental damage associated with such large amounts of trash.
