I'm tired of empty promises and pleasant-sounding goals that will never be achieved. Student Assembly is supposed to serve as the voice of the student body. It is supposed to fight for the needs of the students and deal with the issues that people really care about. SA doesn't need individuals with grand ideas; it needs leaders who have a plan to make things happen.

Enthusiasm and passion to make a difference are what Student Assembly needs in its leaders. In the past year I have made it my passion to serve this school and the students within it. I was elected Cluster Representative of the Fayerweathers at the outset of the year, I have served on four committees within SA, and I have been the treasurer of the Assembly for the past two terms. I know how Student Assembly works, and I know what needs to be done to make it more effective.

The role of the Vice President is to serve as the unifying presence within Student Assembly, motivating members within while raising the awareness of the greater student body without. In serving that role, I want to strengthen both the capabilities and responsibilities of the elected representatives to SA -- the ones that YOU will be voting on during elections. These are the individuals who should be serving as liaisons between SA and the greater student body. I also want to revamp the SA website so that it becomes a source of direct information that people can turn to if they want to know how their student government is serving them. I want to work on formulating an SA newsletter to bring the word from SA to the student body. I want to bring SA to the people.

From this internal reform will result a greater efficiency within SA, one that will give Assembly the ability to make lasting changes in our College. That is why it is critical for Student Assembly to have leaders with far-reaching and meaningful goals. The role of the Vice President is to set the agenda for Student Assembly, not to tackle a laundry list of eye-catching ideas that the Committee system is designed to handle.

It's time for SA to deal with the issues that people really care about. I'm talking about reducing class size, increasing the interaction we have with professors, and building ties with alumni so that our voice can become a force for change in this institution. It is time for Student Assembly to serve the people. I can make that happen. I can make Student Assembly work for you.
