The Dartmouth

Club Corner

It is not uncommon to see women on the Dartmouth rugby team sporting black eyes while walking around campus.

In Sunday's match against Yale, the rugby team dominated the Bulldogs 34-12 at Brophy Field.

After the match, Katie Moerlein '08 was asked about the black eye she acquired.

Moerlein said, nonchalantly, "Oh, I didn't even realize I had one; it's probably old anyway."

The women in green had played Yale only a week earlier at the Ivy tournament but lost in the final minute of the game.

"It was really nice to come back and show that we dominate," Kirsten Ahrendt '07 said.

Meg Rast '06 scored off a great breakthrough run by Mallory McQueen '09, while Rachel Forman '09 and Alyssa Anderson '07 each recorded one try.

Dartmouth never fell behind against Yale and kept its composure and confidence throughout the match.

Women's rugby resumes action next weekend and will travel either to Rhode Island for the Beast of the East tournament or stay home to play the University of Massachusetts.

In other news, Dartmouth women's club lacrosse team traveled to the University of Connecticut for a Sunday game.

The women in green end up losing 10-8 but gave the Huskies a scare.

The Lady Laxers were winning at the half but missed a few chances to score. UConn capitalized on Dartmouth's mistakes and took the lead.

"We played really well as a team and it was a really close game," Anna Barrett '09 said. "UConn has a very successful club sports program, so we went in knowing the competition was going to be tough."

Dartmouth will travel to Brandeis next weekend for a round robin tournament.
