Consider the Plight of Keggy

To the Editor:

Dartmouth is a school built on the foundation of tradition, honor and perseverance. These values were all thrown to the wind this Winter Carnival when Keggy the Keg was not permitted to enter the Princeton-Dartmouth ice hockey game due to a capacity crowd.

What has this great college come to when anthropomorphic drinking cylinders are not allowed to cheer for the Big Green? With the cameras of ESPNU looking on, it would have been the perfect moment to rally the men's hockey team to a triumphant victory.

Instead, Keggy was forced to remain in the lobby, unable to interact with the fans that he loves. The Big Green's exciting 2-1 overtime victory was won without its biggest fan. Keggy's giant smile was, on the night of the game, masking a deep melancholy.

Please, save your excuses about fire safety and the limited mobility of a man-keg in costume. Reach deep into your souls, Dartmouth and tell me: is the Keg's plight not your plight, too?
