Aug. 22, Boathouse Road, 4:12 p.m.

Dartmouth Safety and Security reported to Hanover Police that a lewd man had repeatedly feigned drowning to entice lifeguards, usually female Dartmouth students, to swim out to him and discover that he was not wearing any clothing. After detaining 28-year-old Luis Hurtado of Miami, Fla., Hanover Police learned that Hurtado had overstayed his welcome in the United States and turned him in to Border Patrol.

Aug. 25, East Wheelock Street, 1:10 a.m.

Officers on a routine patrol noticed a male walking a dog and a female riding a bicycle on the side of the road. The woman fell off her bicycle and into the street, climbed back on and rode away, leaving a sandal on the road. Officers picked up the sandal, but when they approached the woman, she denied it was hers, although one of her feet was bare and she was wearing the other sandal. The officers determined that the two Dartmouth sophomores were intoxicated and arrested them for unlawful possession of alcohol by consumption.

Aug. 29, Lebanon Street, 11:32 p.m.

Police noticed a man attempting to hitchhike on Lebanon Street while walking away from Hanover. When officers began questioning him, they noticed the 19-year-old Dartmouth sophomore was intoxicated. The man tried to convince officers that he was walking from Alpha Delta fraternity to Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, although he was heading in the wrong direction. He was arrested for unlawful possession of alcohol by consumption.

Aug. 31, South Park Street, 7:34 p.m.

Hanover Police received a report that a woman had attempted to pay the Co-op Food Store with checks that did not belong to her. Officers arrested 22-year-old Anika Gilbert, a resident of White River Junction, Vt., for forgery.

Sept. 1, Webster Avenue, 1:54 a.m.

Safety and Security notified Hanover Police that a Dodge Ram 1500 was stuck in a hole in the road amid construction on Webster Avenue. When police arrived they found an open container of Zhenka-brand vodka in the truck. The driver, a 20-year-old Dartmouth sophomore, was arrested for unlawful possession of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol and possession of an open container of alcohol.

Sept. 1, Lyme Road and Carriage Road, 11:30 p.m.

Officers pulled over a maroon 1988 Volvo after noticing the vehicle's passenger throw a lit cigarette out the window. The officer questioned the driver and determined that he was intoxicated. The 21-year-old was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and the Volvo was towed.

Sept. 7, Trescott Road and Etna Road, 1:03 p.m.

An intoxicated woman driving a Saab collided with a Subaru Forester, causing the Subaru to flip over. The woman subsequently drove away, but left her car's front license plate, which had fallen off during the crash, at the scene of the accident. Police tracked down 56-year-old Hanover resident Elisabeth Dietrich and arrested her for driving under the influence of alcohol and for hit and run. No injuries were incurred in the crash.

Sept. 13, River Road, 12:19 p.m.

An officer sitting in his car with a window open detected the scent of marijuana as another car drove by him. He pulled the car over and while questioning the driver, noticed signs that he had been smoking marijuana. The officer asked the driver, 45-year-old Peter Marsh of West Lebanon, to produce what marijuana he had. Marsh complied by handing over a wooden pipe and an undisclosed amount of marijuana. Marsh was charged with possession of controlled substances and possession of drugs in a motor vehicle.
