Dartmouth women's rowing qualified four crews for grand finals and two others for petite finals in the Eastern Sprints competition in Camden, N.J.

In the races on the Cooper River, the team finished with 38 points, good for seventh place in the battle for the Willing Trophy. Brown won the points trophy with 67 points, while Princeton was second with 66 points.

In the varsity eights race, the Big Green was seeded 13th, but finished third in the petite finals, good for ninth overall.

In their preliminary heat, Dartmouth finished fourth at 6:40.80, two seconds behind Syracuse and leaving Penn a second behind.

The third and fourth-placed teams from the three heats met in the petite final, which was won by Columbia with a time of 6:37.60. Cornell was second in 6:41.97 and the Big Green was third with a 6:42.83 clocking.

The Big Green also qualified for the petite finals in second varsity eights after finishing third in their heat, and again took third place. Penn was first in 6:51.33 with Syracuse second in 7:00.40 and Dartmouth third in 7:02.72.

In novice eights, the Big Green qualified for the grand finals, after claiming second spot in their heat at 6:57.40, eight seconds behind Princeton.

In the final, however, they finished sixth in 6:47.55, while Princeton won the race in 6:33.75.

Dartmouth had its best results of the day in the third varsity fours races.

In the A race, the Big Green qualified for the grand finals with the smallest of margins, claiming second spot in their heat, a little more than half a second ahead of Penn.

In the finals, Dartmouth finished fifth in a time of 7:48.10, while Cornell won the race in 7:23.73.

Dartmouth had two entries in the third varsity fours B race, and both qualified for the grand finals. The Dartmouth B entry finished second in a time of 7:58.44, and the Dartmouth A entry was fourth in 8:06.49.

Cornell won that race with a 7:48.80 clocking.

Having finished seventh in the final standings, Dartmouth managed to keep the same place as last year.

However, this year Big Green only managed to win 38 points, compared to the 43 it collected 12 months ago.

At the end of the month, the women's crew team will take part in the NCAA championships, starting May 28.

The men's lightweight and heavyweight crew teams head to New Jersey this weekend to race in the Eastern Sprints.
