At Tuesday night's brief Student Assembly meeting, the members unanimously passed a proposal to fund the extension of library hours during reading period and finals this term.
The Assembly allocated up to $290 in order to defray the costs of keeping Baker-Berry Library open until 2 a.m.
"We felt there was sufficient student demand for extended hours during these heavy study times," Steve Koutsavlis '05 said. Koutsavlis and members of the Academic Affairs Committee, the Student Life Committee and the Executive Committee sponsored the proposal.
Ralph Davies '05 and Student Body President-Elect Julia Hildreth '05 introduced a proposal to seek out money for Dartmouth's underfunded student organizations. The purpose of the proposal, which was passed unanimously, is to urge the Undergraduate Finance Committee to redefine its funding role to include those groups in clear need of funding.
"The reason for doing this is pretty much to help out the club sports," Hildreth said. "They have huge funding crunches."
The proposal called for the creation of a separate committee to make co-sponsorship decisions. Hildreth said that by next year, the committee will no longer be affiliated with the Assembly and will have to request money from the UFC on its own, Hildreth said.
The Student Life Committee also passed a proposal to add additional funding to help provide more barbecue food at the Festival of Humanity. The Assembly added $1,000 to last week's $1,500. This $1,000 came from an allotment intended for the Pro-Greek celebration, which has been delayed until next fall.
The Assembly currently has approximately $3,689 left in its budget for the rest of the term, according to Treasurer Adam Small '04. He speculated that this money might be used for further Novack "beautification" and for getting DASH installed in vending machines.
