Palaeopitus inducts new 2005 delegation

Palaeopitus, the senior society that represents the student body to administrators and facilitates communication among campus groups, announced its next year's members Wednesday.

Each year, the group's 20 current members select rising seniors of diverse backgrounds to represent the undergraduate student body. The society was established in 1899 to advise the College's Dean and President.

This year's new '05 members are as follows: Joshua Clause, Serena Chang, Ralph Davies, Megh Duwadi, Alexis Ettinger, Douglas Hannah, Daniel Hassouni, Julia Hildreth, Lindsey Horton, Alexis Jolly, Scott Kennedy, Caroline Kerr, Marzuq Muhammad, Matthew Oppenheimer, Robin Rathmann-Noonan, Ari Rosa, Zach Rubeo, Kate Schuerman, Sabrina Singh and Vanessa Vega.

Four of the positions are ex-officio -- Hildreth is the Student Assembly president, Duwadi is the president of The Dartmouth, Singh is the president of the Class of 2005, and Rubeo is the intern for the Office of the President.

"The goal is to get different leaders from different parts of campus," said Stephanie Long, a current Palaeopitus member who helped select the incoming members.

The new members expressed hope that they would be able to provide a valuable service to the Dartmouth undergraduate student body.

"I'd be interested in projects that bring together different elements to unify the student body," said Davies, a newly-named member and a former Assembly presidential candidate.

This year's delegation has sought to carry out its mission statement, which calls for the group to recognize Dartmouth's staff, promote activism and initiate student-administration dialogue. It organized a Staff Appreciation Week in the fall, an Activism Week in the winter and a Parkhurst Hall open house this spring.
