Mirroring the nominations-awards ratio of Oscar winner "Return of the King," the Panhellenic Council won all three awards the organization applied for at the Northeastern Greek Leadership conference in Philadelphia this weekend.
Panhell came away victorious with awards for council management, recruitment and leadership and development.
The recruitment award accounted for Panhell's documentation of the 2003 rush process, including rush training. Describing the process of transition between the '03 and '04 leaders garnered the council the leadership and development recognition. The final award concerned how Panhell has conducted their official meetings and public relations.
"A big part is that a lot of people don't know what Panhell does or why we exist, even some members don't know what function we have or why we exist basically," outgoing president Soojung Rhee '04 said, reflecting on this past year's increase in publicity.
"We worked really hard this year to get that knowledge out to the people who were involved in the organization," Rhee said.
The conference involved other beneficial experiences for Panhell, besides their notable triumphs.
"I think was good networking for all of us," incoming president Krista Sande-Kerback '05 said, referring to the intercollegiate communication brought on at the conference.
A highlight for Sande-Kerback included participating in a small group setting and discussing important issues pertaining to their Greek system.
"It was great to meet other students and exchange ideas with them," Sande-Kerback said.
Sande-Kerback said Panhell executives were elated about the awards and cited the hard work put in by the '04 council to compile these most comprehensive award-winning binders. Dean of the College James Larimore sent the council a letter of congratulations, Sande-Kerback said.
But Panhell isn't planning to rest on its laurels.
"We're starting to brainstorm our publicity for the spring. This term has been one of transition, but we've already sponsored some big events," Sande-Kerback said, citing a recent event with Hanover Police and Safety and Security at Sigma Delta sorority.
Panhell leaders said the group plans to be active through the end of Winter term, with a few events still up their sleeves.
Summing the reaction of top officials on Panhell, Rhee said, "If we didn't have the six houses and execs working their butts off, Panhell doesn't exist."
