After the bonfire's last ashes burn, the Dartmouth Dodecaphonics will ignite Spaulding Auditorium with a capella in tomorrow's annual Fall Fling concert. The concert will also feature the Dartmouth Cords and the University of Maine Steiners.
"It's the a capella event of the term," said Dodecs publicity chair Benjamin Schwartz '06.
According to Schwartz, the Dodecs have been working on six new songs in preparation for the concert, several of which will include solos by members of the class of 2007. Their first performance since orientation, Fall Fling is the debut of the Dodec's new performers.
"It is a must-see event to hear our new songs," Schwartz said.
Fall Fling is one of three large a capella events held in Spaulding Auditorium each year during the Fall, Winter and Spring terms. The eight a capella groups on campus host the concerts in rotation.
Traditionally, the host group invites another on-campus group and one group from a nearby college to sing for the event.
This will be the Steiners' second visit to Dartmouth in recent years. The group came to the College last year when Dartmouth hosted the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella's East coast semifinals.
"We're very excited about coming to Dartmouth. We always like singing with the Dodecs. It's always a lot of fun," said Dave Janes, the Steiners' music director.
The Steiners, who were finalists in last year's ICCA, are a 10-member, all-male group that originated in the 1950s as an extension to the Men's Glee Club at the University of Maine.
The Dartmouth Cords will also be performing at tonight's 8 p.m. concert.
Tickets are $3 for students and $10 for non-students at the Hopkins Center ticket office or at the door before the event.
