Rowers bow out across the pond

After posting impressive victories on Wednesday and Thursday, all three Dartmouth crews were eliminated on Friday at the Henley Royal Regatta at Henley-on-Thames, England.

The men's lightweight eight lost to Harvard in the quarterfinals of the Temple Cup. Despite a warning for erratic steering, Harvard finished one-half length ahead of the Big Green.

"It's tough to produce your fastest race and still lose," Dartmouth coach Dick Grossman said. The Dartmouth lights defeated Radley College and Caius College en route to facing Harvard.

In the quarterfinals of the Ladies' Challenge Plate, the men's heavyweight eight fell to Rutgers by 1 1/4 lengths. The Dartmouth heavies won the Ladies' Challenge Plate in their last trip to Henley in 2001.

The women's eight lost to the Canadian National Team by open water in the second round of the Remenham Cup.
