The Dartmouth

Squash teams beat Bears and wallop White Mules

The Berry Athletics Center was bumpin' on Sunday as both Dartmouth squash teams rolled in their matches against Brown and Colby. Scoring a decisive Ivy League victory against Brown and then dominating Colby, the Big Green took one more step towards their ultimate goal of postseason glory.

The lady squashers are still riding their wave of recent success and are absolutely unstoppable as of late. In back-to-back 8-1 thrashings of both Colby and Brown, the Big Green women showed the world "who is boss," according to captain Charlotte Haldeman '03.

An elated Haldeman went on to say that Colby and Brown "just couldn't handle the Big Green," and she noted that the team needs to hold on to its euphoric energy and "take this enthusiasm on to Penn and Princeton next weekend."

The lady squashers improved to 10-3 overall and 2-2 in Ivy competition.

The Big Green men were equally impressive in their consecutive victories over the Bears and the White Mules yesterday afternoon (how can you respect yourself, much less win at squash, if your mascot is the white mule?). After walking all over Brown 7-2, the Big Green rolled on to squash the White Mules of Colby 8-1.

Team captain Jesse Nisselson '04 reported that "Brown just couldn't compete with us. We were physically and mentally tougher than they were."

The quintessential comedian went on to elaborate the extent to which he and his teammates dominated the Bears: "For example, I pushed my opponent down a flight of stairs and he apologized to me. Booyah." Incredible.

The Big Green's stellar performance yesterday pretty much guarantees them a spot in the top bracket in Championships in three weeks, which is nice.

With Sunday's domination, the Dartmouth squashers improved to 11-5 overall, and 1-3 in Ivy League play this season.

Unfortunately, the Dartmouth men and women will be gone for next weekend's Winter Carnival festivities as they will both travel to Princeton on Saturday and then to Penn on Sunday.

As the Dartmouth squash dynasty nears the home stretch of this season, things are on the up-and-up, and you better jump on the bandwagon before it's too late and all the seats are taken.
